8. Visitors, including children, are invited to watch whilst animals are dissected

Visitors including children are invited to zoos in Denmark to watch the dissection of animals.

Marius, the giraffe was dissected and fed to the lions in front of an audience receiving a huge backlash, but they didn’t stop there. In 2015, the Odense zoo publicly dissected a nine-month-old lion that was put down as the zoo couldn’t find it a home due to the surplus of animals. Its organs were pulled out as part of an educational event and its tongue cut off. Around 400 bystanders gathered, shielding their faces from the pungent smell. Two other lions were also killed. Some criticised the act as inhumane and lacking compassion whilst others called it natural and educational and defended the dissection.
