The author, Baum, wasn’t let without payment when MGM decided to turn this book into a film.

He wrote the original book and as a result of it being turned into a hit film, he made $75,000 for giving the rights.

If you look at inflation, you will see that back then that is the equivalent of around $1.3 million today!
