9. Peter Jackson made three cameo appearances

It’s the signature of many filmmakers to have themselves – or other acquaintances – appear in their films.

His cameo in The Fellowship of the Ring

We call this a cameo appearance. And there were so many people involved in The Lord of the Rings, it’s hard to imagine there not being at least a few.

Peter Jackson’s are perhaps the most infamous, however. He appears in all three of the films.

And in The Two Towers…

Maybe you already spotted him… In The Fellowship of the Ring he appears in Bree – the town the hobbits first travel to in order to meet with Gandalf. He turns to the camera for a split second, chomping on a carrot. Yum.

In The Two Towers, he features as a soldier at the battle of Helm’s Deep, throwing a spear at the oncoming hoard of Uruk-hai.

And in The Return of the King!

His appearance in The Return of the King you’d be forgiven for missing. This is because the scene he appears in you can only see in the extended edition. But if you’re keen, you’ll spot him as one of the pirates. In fact, he’s the pirate that Legolas accidentally shoots with an arrow!
