6. Ironically tall

Several of the cast members had doubles so that the filmmakers were able to catch the size they were aiming at for the character.

For example, all of the hobbits had scale doubles to stand-in for them in wide shots.

This worked very well. It also turns out that the actor playing the dwarf Gimli – John Rhys-Davies – had a scale double.

How the size difference was achieved…

The reason being that he is actually 6’1″ in real life – making him far taller than his character.

But another interesting snippet is that he was actually the tallest actor in the Fellowship.

How ironic! And he was clearly too perfect as Gimli to pass the role to someone else.
