The Academy Awards are one of the most highly esteemed award ceremonies within the entertainment industry. Actors, actresses, producers, and directors who are the very best in their field are awarded the iconic golden statuette. Although let’s be honest, the Oscars isn’t just for showing off your talents, it’s for showing off the most glam gowns and the suavest suits. Whilst you may think your favourite celebrities have always looked sophisticated and at the height of fashion, for some, that hasn’t always been the case. Let’s take a look back on how these iconic celebrities looked at their very first Oscar’s, compared to how they have taken more recent award ceremonies by storm…

Meryl Streep (1979)

As one of the most recognised faces in Hollywood, Streep received her very first Oscar nomination back in 1979 for best-supporting actress for her role alongside Robert De Niro in the epic war film, The Deer Hunter. Sadly she was pipped to the post by Maggie Smith for her portrayal of Diana Barrie in California Suite.

Over 40 years later, Streep is now in the top five Oscar winners of all time. She won her third Oscar back in 2012 for her incredible portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in the Iron Lady. Most recently she was up for a Best Actress nomination in 2018 for her role alongside Tom Hanks in The Post.
