Kate Winslet (1996)

A fresh-faced Winslet first appeared on the Oscar red carpet back in 1996 on the back of her performance as Marianne in the 1995 romantic drama, Sense and Sensibility. Even though she was awarded a BAFTA for her portrayal, she was pipped to the post at the Academy Awards by Mira Sorvino, for her role as Linda Ash in Mighty Aphrodite.

Winslet went on to be nominated for a further six nominations, including a Best Actress nomination for blockbuster, Titanic as well as a Best Actress nomination for cult-film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Her win finally came in 2009 for her starring role in romantic-drama, The Reader. In 2016 she was also nominated for Best Supporting actress for Steve Jobs.
