Waste in water

Many of these places, particularly seaside towns, have a big problem with litter being found in the sea, lakes and rivers.

Some American tourists described Glasgow as being:

“covered in litter”

…which did not please the locals!

Not only does the city struggle with litter, but it seems its people aren’t the cleanest either! A survey showed only 19% of residents regularly cleaned their fridge.

Let’s be honest, who has the time to clean their fridge though?

41. Cardiff

“a sea of plastic”

…is how one Cardiff resident described the River Taff, which joins other rivers in the estuary in Cardiff.

Local volunteers said you could hardly see the river underneath all the rubbish in some places, which I think justifies Cardiff’s place on this list!

40. Bristol

This city seems to be trying to clean up its act, going by the amount of fines it dishes out! 9,000 people were fined for littering, since “litter police” were introduced a year before!
