Still to come are some big cities that everyone would expect to be polluted. However, there are still some less likely areas that produce a surprising amount of dirt!

21. Luton

This town could arguably be higher on the list as it was described in 2015 as:

“the dirtiest town in Britain”.

Although its town centre is fairly clean, the outskirts of Luton were said to be getting dirtier and filled with more waste.

20. Sheffield

As an industrial city known for its steel production, it’s not surprising that Sheffield doesn’t have the cleanest air.

Some areas were measured to have more than double the recommended legal limit, which is a lot of fumes to be breathing in!

A small market town in Bedfordshire seems an unlikely candidate for high levels of air pollution.
