27. Makeup and prosthetic
When you’re dealing with a film consisting of elves, dwarves, wizards and hobbits, makeup can get a little more intense.
It’s took a while to attach the hobbit feet
Well… that’s an understatement. The actors playing hobbits had to arrive at set for around 4:30 AM to start getting ready.

This was because their prosthetic feet took a remarkable two hours to be glued on properly.
And the elf ears
They also had to have prosthetic ears set over their own – as did any of the cast playing elves, such as Orlando.

And for virtually the entire of this process, the hobbit actors had to be standing up.

Never mind all the facial prosthetic that John Rhys-Davies had to endure as Gimli. Apparently he consistently had allergic reactions to the ingredients in the prosthetic attached to his face – ugh!
