12. Viggo almost drowned
I think what we’re gathering from this list is that Viggo was just a bit gutsy. He seems to have been the one cast member who injured himself and didn’t bat an eyelid.
Aragorn washed down a river
But there’s quite a big difference between a small scrape or a minor break, and a near death experience.

And this moment could certainly be classed as a near death experience… It all occurred when the filmmakers wanted to record a scene where Aragorn is floating down a river practically unconscious.
This is how it looked
You might remember this moment yourself. It’s in The Two Towers, just after Aragorn has been dragged off a cliff and is thought to have died.

Viggo, of course, wanted to do the scene for himself. Every precaution was taken, with divers going in beforehand to test the route.
Viggo also chipped a tooth during filming – he was a bit wild!
What they didn’t take into account was the weight of Viggo’s Aragorn costume, as well as his sword. When Viggo floated down, he was swiftly dragged under when he caught the current. It was a few moments before he resurfaced, describing it as a “scary” yet “interesting” experience. How crazy is that?
