Tom Hardy’s Height, Tattoos, Real Name: EVERYTHING You Didn’t Know
From Tom Hardy’s height to his on-set bust ups to his obsession with dogs, here’s everything you need to know about the Hollywood heart-throb…
He’s one of the most popular movie stars on the planet, earned a BAFTA for his work and has been around the Hollywood scene for 18 years now. But, somehow, Tom Hardy has managed to keep himself a fairly low profile when it comes to his private life.
With the recent news that he will star in the journalist-alien hybrid Venom for a second time, we’ve got plenty of time to get to know the actor before he returns to our screens once again…
From his past life as a model to revealing his (surprising) height, here’s everything you need to know about the Band of Brothers actor…
He Got Into A Fight With Shia LaBeouf… And He Lost
In The Dark Knight Rises, Warrior and, of course, Bronson, Hardy isn’t exactly a force to be reckoned with (putting it lightly).
The same can be said for his character in Lawless – a Virginia bootlegger looking like he shouldn’t be messed with. Still, that definitely didn’t put his co-star Shia LaBeouf off – he only actor – or person ever – to be able to claim that he’s more intense than Tom Hardy.
Apparently, Shia squared up to Tom and, astonishingly, managed to knock him out.
Hardy later told reporters that LaBeouf “knocked me out sparko. Out cold. He’s a bad, bad boy.”
His Right Hand Little Finger Is Permanently Crooked
If you hadn’t already guessed, it’s common knowledge that the Peaky Blinder’s actor is prone to a few injuries.
Eagle-eyed fans of the actor have probably noticed that Hardly’s pinky in permanently curled whenever he tries to close his right hand. It looks like that because of a mishap in the kitchen- where the actor (as a youngster) accidentally cut his little finger, severing a tendon – ouch!
He Has Leonardo DiCaprio’s Name Tattooed On His Arm
With most of his (very toned, may I add) torso inked up, Hardy’s tattoos tell his life story – starting at fifteen when he got his first tat.
From a leprechaun – a nod to his Irish roots – to the Marine corps number of a friend’s dad to ‘Till I die SW’ – written for his ex-wife Sarah Ward.
Best of all – it’s got to be – is ‘Leo Knows All’ tattooed on his right arm for all to see. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio was so confident that Hardy would get an Oscar for The Revenant, he and Hardy had a bet. Yep – you guessed it – the loser gets a tattoo created by the other… Hardy lost.
He’s Made A Rap Album
Like so many other actors, Hardy has moved about a bit in the showbiz industry.
Before he became a famous face, Hardy produced his very own rap album under the name Tommy No 1. The album – which was (unfortunately) never publicly released – combines a mixtape of featured samples with Hardy spitting his lyrics over the top of them.
Luckily, DJ Tracy made the sought after music available for the general public last year which can be found under the name ‘Falling On Your Arse In 1999’…
We can’t wait to hear it.
‘Tom Hardy’ Is Not His Real Name
It’s nothing out of the ordinary for a singer or actor to adopt a new name when they find themselves in the dizzying Hollywood heights.
Just as Elton John was once Reginald Kenneth Dwight and Lady Gaga was formerly recognised as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Tom also has his own real-world name.
It’s nothing as fancy as Stefani or Reginald (sorry)- Tom was given the birth name Edward Thomas Hardy and decided to roll with his middle name.
He Is 5ft 9
In spite of his large, tough guy persona, you might be surprised to learn that Tom Hardy’s height is only 175.3cm tall. That equates to about 5ft 9 inches.
He Was Invited To Prince Harry’s Wedding
Despite his on-screen popularity, off-screen Hardy has revealed he’s not got loads of friends, admitting to enjoying the company of dogs instead.
However, we do know that he’s got one friend: a pretty high profile one, indeed.
Harry and Hardy had been good friends since 2010 when Hardy came an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust.
Hardy told reporters their friendship was ‘deeply private’ but admitted he thought Harry was a ‘legend’!
He’s On Children’s TV Reading Bedtime Stories
Over the years Hardy has picked up a reputation for being a pretty tough guy, but in real life, he might just be a big softy after all.
From 2016 until now, he’s been regularly appearing on CBeebies Bedtime Story. Yes – that’s a show that features celebs reading books to young kids on camera.
Thus far, Hardy has appeared in several episodes, reading tales like Fleabag and Odd Dog Out.
The BBC must’ve known that the episodes would attract the interest of mums (not kids) with Tom Hardy on screens…
He Loves Dogs… And Rehearses His Lines With Them
If there’s one way to Tom’s heart, it’s through a dog…
He and wife Charlotte have two rescue dogs together and he admits he practices his lines with his dogs:
“You can never fool the dog into thinking that you’re somebody else, so they’re great bulls*** monitors.”
He added that:
“if you think you can transform, just try and pull off your transformation in front of your dog and I guarantee he’ll see right through your greatest transformation, which is quite humbling”.
He Battled A Drug And Alcohol Addiction
Hardy confronted an issue he had been dealing with since his was in the early teens: alcohol and drug addiction.
After shooting Star Trek in 2002, Hardy checked himself into rehab:
“I didn’t want anyone to know I was out of control, but I couldn’t hide it. I went in thinking I’d do it for a little bit until I can go out drinking people forgive me. Did my 28 days. Then after listening to people who had been through similar circumstances I realized I did have a problem.”
Hardy managed to recover from his addiction and has been sober since.
