K.I.T.T was an experimental car prototype which was developed by the Knight industries.

The car came equipped with a lot of envy-inducing features. Some of these features include a supercomputer with a 1,000 megabits of memory, tri-helical plasteel molecularly bonded shell plating, turbojet engine with modified afterburners and anamorphic and etymotic equalizers (just to name a few). I’m not sure what most of those things mean, but it sounds impressive.

While filming the show Knight Rider used heavily modified 1982 Pontiac Trans Am.

Originally the show advertised the car by explicitly naming its company and model. But the show soon stopped this as eager Pontiac customers began expecting real Trans Am to have all the cool features seen on Knight Rider.
