9. Late? Sorry!

We all know how a visit to the cinema these days goes. In our busy, busy schedules, we often run a little late…

What we’re used to

And even if we’re running on-time, we don’t necessarily get to the cinema for when the film starts.

After all, usually advertisements run for over thirty minutes these days! Who wants to sit through all that?

Do you spend that advert time grabbing popcorn?

But in the past, directors have actually asked for cinemas to refuse admittance once the film started.

One such director was Alfred Hitchcock, who asked that for showings of Psycho, latecomers be refused admittance.

People weren’t allowed in late to Psycho either

Following in Hitchcock’s footsteps, Spielberg too asked that latecomers be refused into screens showing Saving Private Ryan. This makes sense given the sensitive nature of the first 30 minutes – but still a very gutsy move!
