8. The Battle of Ramelle

This was the final battle of the film – a desperate last-ditch attempt to stop the Germans from taking control of the town.

In the film, the battle is hard-fought. Several characters perish – including Captain Miller himself.

However, it turns out that this particular battle is a fabrication, because Ramelle the town does not actually exist. Say what?

Yes – it’s fictional. However, that isn’t to say that the events that take place in the film aren’t inspired by real events.

In fact, it was inspired by a German counterattack that actually occurred over a causeway at La Fiere. Who knows why the Spielberg decided to change it…
