Tom Daley Husband: Meet the Diver’s Other Half

After a hugely successful diving career, Tom Daley likes to take life a bit slower these days. When he’s not travelling around the world, he’s enjoying a cosy home life with his husband and young son.
So who is the Olympic champion married to?

Tom Daley’s husband is Dustin Lance Black, an American screenwriter and director. And he’s won awards for his work!
Dustin bagged himself an Academy Award for Milk, which won Best Screenplay back in 2009. This also earned him an award at the Hollywood Film Festival.
The 47-year-old was born in Sacramento, California, and grew up in a Mormon household.
The family moved to Texas, before returning to California when Dustin’s mother remarried.
Dustin has said that growing up in a religious family meant he worried about his sexuality.
When he found himself attracted to a boy at age seven, he said to himself:
“I’m going to hell. And if I ever admit it, I’ll be hurt, and I’ll be brought down.”

Adam Peaty: From swimming to Strictly
Dustin eventually came out in his senior year at college, and he’s now a fierce LGBTQ activist, as well as a member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
He met Tom back in 2013, but at this stage, Tom hadn’t officially come out. But it didn’t take long for Tom to go public, and the couple settled into a relationship.
Speaking about meeting Dustin, Tom said:
“I’d never felt the feeling of love, it happened so quickly, I was completely overwhelmed by it to the point I can’t get him out of my head all the time.”
The couple then got engaged in 2015.
And the couple have continued to go from strength to strength since then…
Baby
In 2018, Tom and Dustin announced they were expecting a child via a surrogate.
Sharing the news on social media, the pair posted a picture of themselves holding an adorable ultrasound scan of their baby, sending fans into meltdown!
The couple then announced the birth of their baby boy, Robert Ray Black-Daley, in June 2018.
Robert was also the name of Tom’s late dad Robert, who sadly passed away from a brain tumour back in 2011.

Tom and Dustin are devoted parents to Robbie, and they’re often seen enjoying cute trips out with their little one.
But while the public have generally “ been lovely” to Tom and Dustin, there’s been a few homophobic comments thrown their way.
The diving pro admitted the homophobic comments came as a “shock”, especially since he’s always dreamed of becoming a dad.
In an interview with The Times, Tom said:
“It was a shock at the beginning, the negativity. I always desperately wanted children. I’ve been collecting baby clothes for years.
I didn’t understand why people would mind so much if Lance and I decided to have a child of our own. We’d probably thought about it more than many couples.”
Diving Career
But Tom hasn’t let the negativity affect him. He’s continued to focus on his life with his family, as well as his top-tier diving career.
He now has a LOT of titles under his belt; Tom is an Olympic gold medallist in men’s synchronised diving, a double world champion in the 10-metre platform event, as well as a two-times Olympic bronze medallist in 2012 and 2020 platform events. He’s a busy man!
