Kate Wright TOWIE: From Bombshell To Step-mum
We were first introduced to Kate Wright TOWIE back in 2015 when she took the crown as the show’s Barbie, alongside her Ken, Dan Edgar.
Her debut was on season 16’s Marbella special, alongside her lifelong friend and co-star, Mike Hassini. It didn’t take her long to slot right in to the TOWIE drama, branding Megan Mckenna a ‘dog’ as a ‘joke’:
“I thought it was quite funny. Everyone in the room laughed. It was a banter night.”
As you can imagine, it went down like a lead balloon.

Despite sharing the famous Essex family name, she was only actually friends with Jess Wright- not sisters. She was, also close with ex-TOWIE star Chloe Lewis and had been dating Dan Edgar since meeting in Ibiza back in 2010. She was also a good friend of TOWIE’s protagonist diva- the GC. It was always destined for trouble, then…
When Edgar landed his own role on the show a year before Kate, he had ditched her for the limelight. But, when she made her big debut to the show, he soon came running back.

Their relationship changed more than the weather during their time on the show together. The rollercoaster well and truly de-railed when Kate was accused of sleeping with one of Dan’s good pals:
“I don’t know if I can trust you. As far as I’m concerned I’ve been made to look like a complete p****.”
The pair finally called time on their turbulent romance soon after. Just a couple of months later in January 2017 she was linked to football legend, Rio Ferdinand.
Her departure from the show came soon after in April 2016.
“I am taking a long break from the show to focus on my new business ventures and an exciting bikini range.”

It wasn’t long until Kate Wright TOWIE and the ex- Manchester United legend, Rio, were Instagram official, with everything moving pretty quickly from then on.
The TOWIE star’s transition from party girl to stay at home Mum began to really play out, evident in everything from her style to her circles.
She grew up overnight- leaving her reality TV days behind, instead swapping them for Sunday roasts and school runs.
The blonde bombshell came at the perfect time, as just two years previously, Rio tragically lost his ex-wife to breast cancer. Kate came in and took on the responsibility of trying to mend Rio’s and his children’s broken hearts:
“I had two choices. I’m in this world with lots of drama and then I met Rio and the children and, I thought, ‘I’m with these kids, who have lost their mum, they don’t need a woman who is out all the time. They need someone at home with them.”
Their inclusivity of the kids is refreshing to hear:
“A really big part of our relationship and it working for the children is that we’ve included them in everything we’ve done. So from the first date, him asking me to be his girlfriend, us moving in – everything – the kids were part of it.”

It didn’t take him long to pop the next big question, either. And, of course- he did it in front of the watchful eye of his little ones. And on a rooftop in Abu Dhabi back in November 2018. Nothing but the best for footballer Rio.

Despite not being on our TV screens anymore, Kate Wright TOWIE has maintained her place on our phone screens. She boasts a modest 900k Insta following, to which she gives us major fashion inspo and body envy. That girl is NEVER out of the gym- I suppose she does have one downstairs, it’s got to help!
So much so, she’s got her own body plan coming out on Boxing Day! Christmas present SORTED- all I want for Christmas is THAT bod.

Since the engagement she’s revealed on her Instagram account that she has given Rio’s only daughter, Tia, the privilege of being her Maid of Honour. What a lovely thing for Kate to do!

The blonde beauty has recently stormed Instagram with her Mykonos Hen Party pics which left us all in awe. She even had all her bridesmaids in her OWN bikini range- what a dream!

We love these two together- Kate Wright TOWIE knows she will never replace their Mum but she does a bloody good job of playing the part!
