Wes Bentley is an absolute star who many fans know from his role as Jamie Dutton in Yellowstone. But what is he like off-screen and who are his family?
Wes Bentley:
Wes Bentley is a hugely recognisable talent having acted in box office hits such as the The Hunger Games, American Horror Story and Ghost Rider during his career.
Many fans also know him for his role as Rick Fitts in American Beauty, which earned him a BAFTA nomination.
At the moment, Wes Bentley is playing the role of Jamie Dutton on the modern western series Yellowstone, and fans are going wild for him!
But being such a big star always brings those closest to you into the spotlight as well.
So who are his family?
Wes Bentley’s first marriage and addiction:
Wes Bentley was married to actress Jennifer Quanz from 2001 to 2009.
However, unfortunately the couple divorced in 2009 due to his substance abuse, which had spiralled out of control after his success in American Beauty.
He had become famous almost overnight when the movie shot to an Oscar-winning level of success.
The actor really struggled to deal with sudden fame.
“I wanted fame, but I thought it would be incremental, and I became afraid of the overnight-sensation thing,” Bentley told the New York Times.
“I started walking into rooms, and everyone would look at me, and I would freeze up.
“People kept saying, ‘You have to find your next movie,’ and that didn’t make life any better.”
Wes Bentley’s recovery:
There soon came a turning point where Wes knew things had to change.
Opening up during an interview with New York Times, Mr Bentley explained: “I had come back to L.A. for something, and I drank a whole bottle of Scotch, and I thought to myself, ‘I’m going to die in this hotel room with this bottle of Scotch.’ It was after that I told a friend for the first time: ‘I’m a drug addict, and an alcoholic, and I need help. I need help or I’m going to die.'”
And that’s where his road to recovery began.
Speaking in an interview with Larry King he admitted: ”I worked really hard, I still work really hard.”
Since entering recovery, Wes Bentley’s career bounced back and he rebuilt his life.
New beginnings:
He went on to star in hits like Interstellar, We Are Your Friends, The Hunger Games, American Horror Story, and Yellowstone and we are wishing him every success!
He also managed to find a new wife along the way and has proved himself to be an amazing husband and father
Wes Bentley went on to marry producer Jacqui Swedberg in 2010 having both a son born and a daughter with her.
Like her husband Wes, Jacqui also works on screen as a producer.
She is a professional actress and assistant director as well as a producer in the American media industry
Many Americans know Jacqui Swedberg for her work on TV series Corner Gas which aired between 2007 and 2009.
Wes Bentley’s children:
Despite both husband and wife having careers in the public eye, Wes Bentley has kept his family life very low-key.
In fact, the couple are so private that his daughter Brooklyn’s birth in June 2014 was not made public until November of the same year.
They welcomed their eldest son Charles in 2010 the same year he and wife Jacqui got married.
While we don’t know much about Wes Bentley’s children, we do know that he loves being a father.
He said back in 2015: “I didn’t know I was going to love being a dad so much. Now it’s the only thing I want to be. I just want to be a great dad. Everything I’m doing, I’m trying to incorporate being a good dad.”
He also said that being a father has put his life into perspective.
Wes added: “Anytime I lose my head or feel stressful, I remember I’m doing this for my kids and think about them. It lightens my heart.”
The actor has also opened up on the impact fatherhood has had on him while promoting his 2012 film The Time Being.
He made it clear that he would choose being a good dad over his career any day.
The father said: “I was drawn to the story about trying to be an artist and have a family, and whether you could do both. I had had my own minor struggle with that in my head when I knew I was going to be a father, but I didn’t have as big of a battle as [my character] did. I decided quickly—I said, ‘I’m gonna be a great father, and if I struggle as an artist, that’s fine.’ But I’ve found that actually, [fatherhood] has really made me a better actor, a better artist. It’s given me more tools and more life.”
