He might be a smooth talker on the big screen, but in real life, Pierce Brosnan is a true family man.
The star has been married twice- first to Cassandra, and now to new wife Keely. But things have been difficult for the actor’s blended family over the years.
The family has suffered devastating losses and estrangements, but they’re still trying to pull together the best they can.

Pierce Brosnan Children
Pierce Brosnan has have children in total; Sean Brosnan, Chris Brosnan, Dylan Brosnan, Paris Brosnan, and late daughter Charlotte Brosnan.
The actor lost his daughter to ovarian cancer- the same cancer that claimed her mother Cassandra in 1991.
When Pierce lost Cassandra, he was a single parent to his biological son Sean, and Charlotte and Chris, who he had adopted five years earlier.
As the family tried to piece their lives back together, tragedy struck again when Charlotte lost her own battle with ovarian cancer in 2013.
At this point, Pierce’s son Chris began to spiral into drug addiction. Despite the Hollywood star’s best efforts, Chris’ behaviour became more and more erratic.
Pierce had managed to get Chris opportunities to work as an assistant director on his films Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and The Thomas Crown Affair, but his addiction to cocaine and heroin ended in disaster.
Pierce finally decided to cut him off after Chris was sentenced for drink-driving.

But despite the difficulties he’s faced, Pierce still looks back at his time with Cassandra with a smile.
Speaking with People, the star said:
“She has made me the man I am, the actor I am, the father I am.
She’s forever embedded in every fibre of my being. She’s there with me every day. I was so blessed to have met someone like that.”
Moving On
After the devasting loss of Cassandra, Pierce Brosnan thought he would never find love again. But everything changed when he went into a Mexican bar in 1994…
It was here that he met Keely Shaye Smith, and the pair quickly became inseparable.
The pair tied the knot in 2001 and went on to have two children; Dylan, 20, and Paris, 17.

The former model, who he calls my “North star” helped him move on, but he is open that Cassandra is always in his thoughts.
Speaking with The Mirror, Pierce admitted:
“I know what it is like to be a widower and what it is like to find love again. So I know there’s hope and that you have to learn to get on with it.
“But the memory of Cassie and her fight against cancer is never forgotten.”
Tragedy
The memory of losing Cassandra came flooding back when daughter Charlotte was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
The mum-of-two passed away in June 2013, days after marrying partner Alex Smith, leaving behind daughter Sophie, then 15, and son Lucas, 10.
In a statement Pierce said:
“Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl.
We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon.”

And it seems that the tragedies of the star’s personal life take their toll on Pierce sometimes.
The Hollywood actor has spoken openly about his bouts of depression, but is grateful to have Keely and his sons by his side.
“I don’t look at the cup as half full, believe me. The dark, melancholy Irish dog sits beside me from time to time…
But [Keely] has a strength I wouldn’t be able to live without.”
