The celebrity world was rocked earlier this year by the death of Mick Norcross.

The Essex businessman and TOWIE star was found dead in his home in January and the cause of death was determined as suicide.

In his time on the show, Mick had built up a tidy net worth. However, the final few months of his life were plagued with debt and other financial problems. These almost certainly contributed to his declining mental health.

But what really was Mick Norcross’ net worth?

Mick Norcross Net Worth

So how much really was Mick Norcross’ net worth? Well, at one time, the TOWIE star was reported to have upwards of $12 million, or £89 million.

He made his money as the owner of the famous The Sugar Hut nightclub in Brentwood, Essex. The nightclub featured prominently in The Only Way is Essex.

However, there’s more to this story. Sadly, not all of Micks business ventures were successful, and at the time of his death, Mick Norcross’ net worth had taken a steep loss.

Mick sold The Sugar Hut in 2019 and focused his attention on a property development venture. He was working on developing the Grand Hotel in Leigh-on-Sea into a luxury hotel when he died.

However, the project wasn’t without its problems – and the problems were massive. In fact, Mick was £5.2 million in debt, with his hotel renovation £1 million over budget.

Mick’s partner, Samantha Keahey, said that Mick had been feeling a financial strain in the last few months of 2020.

She said: “Due to all these projects being overrun during the course in 2020, he sold three of his cars.

I was also aware he cashed his private pension in early and he may have been running out of money with the funds to keep himself afloat due to large monthly outgoing.”

All this would have had an impact on the total sum of Mick Norcross’ net worth.

His Tragic Death

Mick Norcross was found dead at his Essex mansion in the afternoon of 21st January 2021. He was found in a basement room and according to a later coroner’s report, had taken his life by hanging himself.

Multiple family members and friends said they had noticed changes in Mick’s behaviour in the last few months of his life. His son Kirk, who was also a TOWIE cast member, said:

“It was almost like he had a black cloud over his head. He would make passing comments, ‘this money is not worth this agg (aggravation), I’m better offing myself.’

I never took this seriously – I thought he was just joking.”

Kirk lived with his father at Mick’s Essex mansion. He found his father’s body and said the trauma of that will stay with him forever.

Mick’s heartbreaking last tweet gives some insight into his state of mind at the time of his death. It reads: “At the end remind yourself that you did the best you could. And that is good enough.”

Among stars to express their sadness at Mick’s death was Denise Van Outen. The actress and TV personality said she didn’t know Mick personally, but that he was always charming.

“I had been to Sugar Hut on a few occasions and he was always a real gentleman and sporadically he would message me on social media and stuff and just send nice messages,” she said.

“He sent me a really nice message about my show in London, it’s really sad.”

The Only Way Is Essex

As the rest of the TOWIE cast members learned of Mick Norcross’ death, they were offered a free bereavement counselling course.

Mick joined the cast of TOWIE early on in the show’s life, along with other popular cast members like Mark Wright, Mario Falcone and Lucy Mecklenburgh.

In 2013, Mick suggested that his nightclub’s reputation was being damaged by being featured in the show. However, it would be another six years before he would sell the venue.

He had a colourful life on the show as the charming and influential club owner. He had a short romance with Chloe Sims and Maria Fowler.
