Who is Mary Berry’s Husband?
Mary Berry has been married to her husband for an incredible 56 years. He is Paul Hunnings, a former antiquarian bookseller and wine exporter, and they met as Paul was a friend of her brother.
The two married in 1966 – though according to Mary it took a couple of tries for her to accept Paul’s offer!
She admitted: “I do remember the first proposal and I think you were drunk “I think you had too much and I can remember telling you you were drunk and thinking ‘I’m not going to have anything to do with this man’. But you came back.”
In the end, she accepted his offer on the third try – and look how far they’ve come since then.

In a shocking reveal, Mary Berry has also said that she dated other men while going out with her now-husband Paul. She said that she was seeing other guys in Bath while Paul lived in London.

Does Mary Berry Have Children?
Mary Berry and her husband ended up having three children: Thomas, Annabel, and William.
Their eldest, Thomas, is now a tree surgeon and lives in Oxfordshire. Youngest, Annabel, has followed her mum into baking, evening helping create a range of foods with her famous chef mum.
The two created the range, Mary Berry & Daughter, together in the 1990s, but sold it for £2.5 million in 2014.

Tragically, their middle child, William, died aged 19 in 1989 in a car crash. Mary revisited the heartbreaking event for a documentary in 2016, describing in detail the events of that day.
She described how, the night before, she had welcomed William back from university. The day after, he went out for lunch and never returned.
She said: “It was about 1pm. The doorbell rang and a policeman was there. Immediately, I knew why. He said, ‘There’s been an accident and I’m sorry to say your son is dead’.
We had William for 19 years and he was so much fun. We have great memories.”
Mary Berry has also described how, two years into their marriage, she suffered a miscarriage. In an honest and unflinching account, she said: “I had stayed up late one night to work on a cloth for a lovely table we’d bought on our honeymoon.
Around 2 am, I was just finishing the final stitches when I started to lose the baby. It was dreadful. I’m thankful that it was an early miscarriage, but it was still very distressing.”
Her Incredible Career
While many fans know Mary Berry from her time as a judge on The Great British Bake Off, she had a long and eclectic career before appearing on the show.
Her love of cooking appeared from a young age, and she was lucky enough to train at the prestigious Cordon Bleu cookery school in Paris, as well as the Bath School of Home Economics.
Mary’s first job in food was as a cookery editor for Housewife magazine in the 1960s. In the 1970s, she started appearing on TV shows and started her own series of books and BBC cooking shows in the 1980s.

By the time the opportunity to appear on The Great British Bake Off came around, Mary Berry was actually about to retire! The chef was then 74 years old.
But the chef has always embraced a busy life. She said: “I am always looking forward to achieving one thing and then moving on to the next challenge. It feels that I am alive when I am busy.
I also think I am very fortunate to be fit and healthy at my age. A lot of my peers aren’t and so I do feel lucky. I think I have to put it down to good genes as my mother lived so long but also a healthy diet and a little bit of exercise.”
