After hitting the big time on the stand-up circuit, Lee Mack is a household name thanks to his time on Would I Lie to You? and Not Going Out. And there’s one person that’s been by Lee’s side since his university days…

Lee Mack has been with his wife for many years now, and they seem happier than ever.

Let’s get the lowdown on Lee Mack’s wife Tara.

Lee Mack Wife

Lee Mack’s wife Tara McKillop may have been with the comedian before he got famous, but not everyone believes him!

The pair met when they were mature students at Brunel University. Lee and Tara were living in the same flat during their studies, and they quickly hit things off.

But the Not Going Out Star said he has to put up with people believing that his other half was attracted by his high profile and fortune rather than his humour.

A fellow comedian’s sister even asked if Lee had to do something heroic to convince her to go out with him

Jimmy Carr Girlfriend: Who is the comedian dating?

The sister of Roisin Conaty thought Lee and Tara had got together after the comedian hit the big time, and Lee had to awkwardly explain they’d been together since university.

Lee said on a recent podcast:

“We talked the other day with Roisin Conaty.

“Her sister met Tara and said ‘I assume you two have been together after you became a comedian and a bit of money.’ And I said ‘no, no, we met before I ever was a comedian when we were at university…

She looked aghast at why this woman would be with me.

And do you know what she said? ‘Did you save her life or something?’

I thought that’s an incredibly bold statement to make after five minutes of meeting someone.”

Married Life

Despite the awkward comments, Lee and Tara’s relationship is thriving.

The pair got married back in 2005, a year after their first child Arlo was born.

Lee and Tara then welcomed their second son, Louie shortly after, before welcoming their youngest, daughter Mollie.

Alex Jones One Show: The star shows off her new daughter

While Lee generally keeps his kids out of the limelight, he occasionally takes them to film premieres if there’s a movie they’re really keen on.

The comedian also opened up about his family life in 2017- and it seems his wife and kids aren’t that impressed with his success!

Chatting with Radio Times about Not Going Out, Lee Mack said:

They’re really not bothered whether it’s on or not.

My wife doesn’t really watch it and although my eldest has just started to, it’s not his favourite show by a long way – and why would it be?”.

He added:

“The only feedback I get from [Arlo] is the occasional slightly arched eyebrow if he likes one of my character’s jokes.

That’s high praise in my house. He did actually appear in the 2013 Christmas special.”

Rise to Fame

Lee’s family might not be into Not Going Out, but it’s safe to say that the comedian has had a meteoric rise over the years.

The Live at the Apollo star began his comedy career in 1995, where he joined Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt in the original radio version of The Mighty Boosh.

Lee then landed his own BBC radio show off the back of his success.

Since then, he’s gone on to hit the stand-up circuit, and has appeared on everything from They Think It’s All Over and TV Heaven, Telly Hell to Would I Lie to You? and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

At the moment you can catch him on Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof alongside Holly Willoughby on BBC One.
