Lady Marina Windsor: What Do We Know About The Royal?

The British royal family is huge, encompassing hundreds of descendants of kings and queens of old. It’s hard to keep track of all the royal cousins, grandchildren, and second cousins who all have royal titles.

One of those lesser members of the British royal family is Lady Marina Windsor, the great-granddaughter of King George V.

A minor member of the royal family, Lady Marina Windsor has nonetheless lived a glamorous and very public life. But what do we actually know about her?

Here’s everything you need to know about Lady Marina Windsor.

Who is Lady Marina Windsor?

Lady Marina Windsor (or to use her full name, Lady Marina Charlotte Alexandra Katharine Helen Windsor) is a descendant of King George V, who ruled between 1910 and 1936.

The royal was born on the 30th of September 1992, making her 29 years old. While being a King’s descendent, she is also the second child of George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, and Sylvana Tomaselli, a Canadian-born academic.

She is also the granddaughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who is the Queen’s cousin (there’s the all-important monarch connection).

The lesser royal is named after her great-grandmother, who was Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. She was a Greek princess who married Prince George, Duke of Kent.

Lady Marina Windsor has also inherited prestigious blood from her mother’s side. Sylvana Tomaselli is a member of the Austrian Tomaselli family, who were prominent in the 18th and 19th centuries.

She attended St Mary’s School, Ascot, a girls boarding school. Later, she studied a Master of Arts in French and Portuguese at the University of Edinburgh.

After graduating, Lady Marina worked a variety of jobs in marketing and research and is now a Philanthropy Executive at The Big Give.

Who are Lady Marina Windsor’s Siblings?

Lady Marina Windsor is frequently spotted out with her sister, Lady Amelia Windsor. The 25-year-old has followed a career as a model, and also attended the University of Edinburgh like her sister (the Scottish university is a popular choice for lesser royals). She studied History of Art, Latin, and French.

Though her main work might be modelling, she also has her sister’s interest in philanthropy. The young royal is an ambassador for companies like Blue Marine Foundation and the Cross River Gorilla Project.

Her career as a model seems to be going very well indeed. She has twice modelled on the catwalk for fashion houses Dolce & Gabbana and has also modelled for Bulgari.

Probably because of her public modelling career, Amelia has amassed more followers on social media than her elder sister. Almost 100,000 keep up with her life on Instagram.

The final Windsor sibling is Edward, who also goes as Lord Downpatrick. He is the eldest of the children, at 32 years old.

The elder sibling studied at the University of Oxford and while there was president of the infamous Bullingdon Club (which counts Boris Johnson as a previous member).

Afterwards, he worked for the bank JP Morgan and now owns his own fashion label.

Edward also boasted one of the most famous members of the royal family as his godmother: Diana, Princess of Wales. Sadly, though, Diana died before Edward got to know her.

Can She Become Queen?

Up until 2008, Lady Marina Windsor was 25th in line for the British throne. Thanks to a series of royal weddings and babies, that’s not the case now – she should lie somewhere around 41st as of 2021.

However, Lady Marina Windsor and her elder brother Lord Downpatrick will never ever sit on the throne, despite their eligibility. But why?

The reason is religion. Both Edward and Marina forfeited their right to the throne when they were confirmed as Roman Catholics.

According to British law, Roman Catholics cannot be Head of State. Every member of the royal family ordinarily is christened into the Church of England, a Protestant branch of Christianity.

This isn’t the case for Lady Amelia Windsor, who still retains her 38th position in line for the throne.

Edward Windsor is the most senior person to be excluded from the line of succession due to being Roman Catholic.
