Jon Batiste has taken the music world by storm. The musician released his first album aged just 17 and went on to tour around the world.

Now, the 35-year-old even has an Oscar under his belt for the soundtrack to the Disney film Soul.

Though we know a lot about Jon’s professional life, we know less about his family life.

So who is Jon Batiste’s wife?

Who is Jon Batiste’s Wife?

The Oscar-winning composer and musician would be a catch for anyone – so who has he said ‘I do’ with?

Well, actually, Jon Batiste doesn’t have a wife at all! But there is a woman by his side.

Jon Batiste is in a long-term relationship with Suleika Jaouad. She is an author and journalist and has even won Emmys for her reporting work.

The two have a pretty long history. Jon met Suleika at band camp when the pair were just 13 years old.

However, despite becoming friends, the two spent many years apart. Suleika and Jon only reconnected in college – Jon attended Juilliard School in New York while Suleika studied Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University, New Jersey.

While they like to keep their relationship fairly quiet, Jon Batiste did open up about his life with Suleika over the pandemic.

He said: “Obviously there’s so much loss that we’ve faced individually and collectively, but I find that this time has also been a blessing in that it gives us a break to be with each other.”

In fact, Jon Batiste’s new album even features an ode to his almost-wife. Jon samples Suleika on the emotional track ‘Show Me the Way.’

Devastating News

In December 2021, Suleika announced on Instagram that she had had some terrifying news.

The reporter confirmed to followers that she was undergoing treatment for leukaemia. The 33-year-old was previously treated for cancer 11 years ago when doctors told her that she had a 35% chance of survival.

After six years cancer-free, though, the writer received news that it had returned.

On Instagram, she wrote: “I’m on Day 23 of chemo and will need a second bone marrow transplant. Everything has changed so drastically, so quickly, and I’m still a bit shell shocked.”

The author previously wrote about her experience with cancer in her Emmy-award-winning column ‘Life, Interrupted’ for the New York Times.

After four years of chemotherapy, Suleika recovered from leukaemia. She wrote about coming to terms with her sickness and recovery in a memoir, Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted.

Thankfully, Suleika has Jon Batiste by her side for this new journey with leukaemia. A picture posted on Jon’s Instagram last week showed the two taking a break from hospital trips with a day in the snow.

In the photo, Jon and Suleika are laughing towards the camera while sitting in a sled. Jon captioned the photo:Snow day, my first sled trip!”

In 2020, Jon Batiste – along with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross – composed the soundtrack for the Disney movie Soul. The heartwrenching film follows a music teacher who has to reunite his soul and his body after an unexpected accident.

In March 2021, he released his fifth solo studio album, WE ARE – the album that featured his girlfriend Suleika Jaouad.

Now, Jon will be preparing for the 64th Grammy Awards, which will be held in April 2022. The show was originally scheduled for January 2022 but was moved due to the Covid pandemic.

He’s earned an incredible eleven nominations, mainly for WE ARE and his soundtrack for Soul.

On an Instagram post celebrating his achievement, Jon Batiste wrote: “Still feeling so grateful and excited to have been nominated for 11 GRAMMYS!!!

Although I was hyped for the Grammys to happen later this month, I am just as excited for the new date in April and equally glad that the @recordingacademy chose safety first.”
