Just over a year later, the couple surprised everyone by announcing a shock split.
Rumours started circling that the former One Direction star had actually “struck” Gigi’s mother Yolanda Hadid, and the news was eventually leaked to the press.
Yolanda accused the singer of assault, which Zayn has repeatedly denied.
In the light of the allegations, Gigi and Zayn quickly went their separate ways. But the media storm didn’t go away, and the One Directioner had to make an official statement.

In his statement, the pop star said:
“I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter. I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private.”
Court documents later showed that Zayn had pleaded guilty to four citations of harassment. Further documents found by TMZ allege Zayn had been verbally abusive towards Yolanda, and that he had “shoved her into a dresser”.
He also apparently called Yolanda a “f****** Dutch sl**”. Gigi was reportedly in Paris during the incident but court documents say he phoned her and said: “Strap on some f****** balls and defend your partner against your f****** mother in my house.”
Zayn will now face 90 days of probation for each charge, and must complete an anger management class and domestic violence program.
He has also been banned from speaking to Yolanda for the duration of his 360 days’ probation.
