David Hamilton was the Top of the Pops presenter from 1975 to 1977, and then again in 1988. This was only the beginning of a very long career in broadcasting, and he’s a good friend with fellow Top of the Pops host Tony Blackburn. He’s gone on to appear in a variety of radio shows.

These days, David has a lunchtime radio show, going out to its listeners every day on Boom Radio, which is aimed at listeners from the Baby Boom generation. In 2019, he also got to celebrate 60 successful years in broadcasting, with Top of the Pops being just one of his many accolades.

3. Kate Thornton: THEN

Kate Thornton was one of the presenters of Top of the Pops during the late 90s, but only hosted the show for a year from 1998 to 1999. She was also the editor of Smash Hits, the pop magazine, and worked for other BBC shows, like Radio 2, as well as editing Marie Claire.

These days, Kate Thornton is best known for her appearances on shows like Loose Women and This Morning, as well as trying her hand at podcasting, too – like most celebs these days – with White Wine Question Time, interviewing other celebrity guests. She’s also spoken out about the realities of weight gain during menopause.

Nicky Campbell was the presenter of Top of the Pops from 1994 and 1997, and his good looks and charm meant that most of us growing up in the 90s didn’t just tune in for the music! While appearing on the music show, he also presented the game show Wheel of Fortune.

Nicky Campbell’s career is still going strong, and one of his most well-known presenting roles outside of Top of the Pops has to be the crime show, Watchdog. He’s also appeared on BBC Radio 5 for the breakfast show, as well as appearing in The Chase celebrity special.

7. Bruno Brookes: THEN

Bruno Brookes was one of the presenters of Top of the Pops back in the 80s, from 1984 to 1991. He then returned to present in 1994 until 1995. The radio and TV presenter was also the frontman for the UK Top 40 Singles Chart that went out on BBC Radio 1 – this guy likes his music!

Bruno Brookes has continued his successful TV and radio career, and also tried his hand at his own business. He was the CEO of company Immedia – a corporate communications business – until he resigned a few years ago. He also had a public romance with fellow Top of the Pops presenter, Anthea Turner, for 8 years.

Mark Goodier was the Top of the Pops host we all tuned into during the late 80s/early 90s, when he presented the music show from 1988 to 1991. He returned to host the show again in 1994 until 1996, and even came back in the late 90s to host it until 2002.

TV and radio presenter Mark Goodier also had a stint of presenting the Top 40 Singles Chart, as well as the breakfast show on Radio 1. These days, he presents the Greatest Hits Radio and is married with 3 children. He’s spent his life living in different places, including Wales and Scotland.

Top of the Pops isn’t even the most well-known thing that BBC veteran Steve Wright has accomplished! He hosted the music show for nine years from 1980 to 1989, and then from 1997 to 2005 before even returning in the late 2000s to present again. He must have really loved the show!

These days, Steve Wright has been best known for his regular presenting spot on Radio 2, as well as his fan-favourite Steve Wright’s Sunday Love Songs. He was presenting his show until recently, when the final broadcast went out and he was replaced by fellow BBC presenter, Scott Mills.

Tony Blackburn is a legendary TV and radio host, and he actually presented Top of the Pops during a few different eras, including the late 1960s to 1970s, then again in the 80s and having a stint in the early 2000s. He was bossing his own radio show alongside this, too!

These days, Tony has still had success with his own radio show, not to mention his big win when he appeared on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!. He’s even tried his hand at podcasting, with his own show Ricky and Tony’s Pop Detectives, which he co-hosts with the Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson.

Anthea Turner has to be one of the most well-known presenters of Top of the Pops (and UK TV) and she hosted the show from the late 80s until 1991. After leaving Top of the Pops, she went on to host another beloved British TV show, Blue Peter, as well as other presenting jobs like the National Lottery.

These days, she’s still a regular face on TV, and has appeared in reality shows like Dancing on Ice. She recently made headlines in light of the Coronavirus pandemic after she’d Tweeted her views on the situation… namely, retweeting a post that was considered anti-mask, as well as fat-shaming and ableist.

17. Noel Edmonds: THEN

Noel Edmonds presented the hit pop show in the early to late 70s, very early on in his own television career which – as we know – would go on to be a success. After his role on Top of the Pops – which he also returned to present in 1983 – he bagged his own shows.

Noels’ House Party back in the day was one of his biggest accomplishments, and he also presented The Late, Late Breakfast Show and the popular game show, Deal or No Deal. He even joined Tony Blackburn and appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! He recently relocated to New Zealand with his wife.

19. Fearne Cotton: THEN

Fearne Cotton is one of the most well known presenters of Top of the Pops for modern-day viewers, as she presented the show in its more recent years from 2003 to 2020. She often appeared on the show with fellow hosts from Radio 1, and has herself worked on the Radio 1 Chart Show.

Fearne is an advocate for mindfulness and mental health awareness these days, and has written her own books as well as hosting her podcast, Happy Place. She’s spoken openly about her struggles with bulimia, and she also works as a TV voice over artist for adverts like Tesco Mobile.
