Lysette Anthony isn’t just the 80s queen of Hollywood- she’s also a soap success!
After her years on the film circuit, the actress settled into life in Chester in Hollyoaks, where she played Marnie Nightingale up until January 2022.
But it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for Lysette, as she’s been through some huge traumas over the years.
Let’s look back at her career.
Early Days
Lysette started out as a model before she decided to get into acting.
After leading plenty of high-profile fashion campaigns, renowned photographer David Bailey labelled Lysette as “the face of the 80s”, and she was quickly offered music video roles with the likes of Bryan Adams and electro group Depeche Mode.
The actress then took to the stage, where she starred in Noël Coward’s Present Laughter and Terry Johnson’s Dead Funny at the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
From here, Lysette’s acting career really started to take off. She went on to star in absolutely everything from ITV’s Murder in Suburbia, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, BBC’s Jonathan Creek, and A Ghost in Monte Carlo.

Lysette Anthony has also starred in a huge number of films over the years including Husbands and Wives, Look Who’s Talking Now, Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde, and Robinson Crusoe.
Hollyoaks
In 2016, Lysette decided to join the cast of Hollyoaks as Marnie Nightingale.
She spent many years entertaining fans and viewers. But things got messy when a race row erupted between cast members.
When Hollyoaks star Rachel Adedeji accused the soap of racism, she later quit the show. And attention soon turned to Lysette…
She was publicly called out on Twitter by former star Charlie Clapham, who shared messages she had sent in a group chat after he and Amanda Clapham, who played Holly Cunningham, came out in support of Rachel.
Lysette had said in the messages:
“Sorry but we’re not going to have a job to come back to if this stuff keeps being disseminated x”.

Rachel went on to describe Lysette Anthony as “trash”.
At this point, the Hollyoaks cast were at war over Lysette’s comments. Producers were facing pressure to take action, and they eventually decided to fire Lysette Anthony from the show. And the actress was angry to say the least…
After she filmed her final scenes after her character was killed off, Lysette said:
“I have been warned by speaking out I may ‘never work in television again’. Ok. Fine. I am retiring. Go f**k yourselves.. my days of abuse are OVER. SHAME ON YOU”.
Harvey Weinstein
While Lysette’s career has continued to soar, it’s been marred by trauma.
The actress has had the courage to speak out about her dealings with Harvey Weinstein, who raped her in the 1980s.
The actress said she was left feeling ‘disgusted and embarrassed’ after he turned up at her house uninvited.
In an article she wrote for USA Today, Lysette said:
“A little of me broke that day. My trust had been soiled. I was now a statistic. ”

Lysette went on to discuss her severe trauma and memory blackouts, and her years of being terrorised by the former film producer.
“After that grim morning, he wouldn’t let me go. Call after call came in from agents and assistants for me to meet him. When his requests went unanswered, he deployed his tactics to personally and professionally torture me- as he did with many others. The pattern is tragic.”
Lysette’s article came out during the #MeToo movement, which saw the likes of Kate Beckinsale, Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter accuse the film producer of sexual harassment and assault.
Harvey Weinstein was later found guilty of two counts in his sexual assault trial, more than two years after the first allegations against him emerged.
