Holly Walsh: Who Is The Comedian and Mock The Week Star?

Anyone with an eye for comedy has probably seen Holly Walsh on their screens over the last ten years.
She’s a firm favourite on comedy shows like Mock the Week, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and QI, and has even appeared on Celebrity Mastermind.
Though she has been performing standup since 2007, fans actually know very little about the funny lady.
So who is Holly Walsh and what do we know about her?
Who Is Holly Walsh?
Holly Walsh read History of Art at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University which she apparently found “boring.”
Afterwards, she worked as an art gallery assistant. However, the job wasn’t for her, and she began taking comedy lessons in the evening.
In the end, her comedy skills got her an agent and a writing job on BBC Radio 4.

In 2011, she won the best newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe, and a year later she helped write the BBC3 sitcom Dead Boss with comedian Sharon Hogan.
Around the same time, she made her debut on comedy panel shows including Mock the Week, QI, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and 8 Out of 10 Cats.
In 2012, she appeared on Celebrity Mastermind, where her chosen subject was badgers. She ended up coming second behind Ken Bruce.
Holly Walsh Family
Holly Walsh was born on 8th November 1980, making her 40 years old.
Her mother became an Anglican vicar not long before Walsh started doing standup, and she admits that her parents didn’t expect her to become a comedian.
She said: “I’ve definitely become a lot less open since she joined Twitter.
For a long time after I started comedy, my parents would keep sending me newspaper clippings with proper jobs they thought I could do.”

In 2013, she sent fans into a spin when she spoke out about her husband on Twitter.
She tweeted: “Help. Last night, while my husband was asleep, our new cat got into with me & started trying to kiss my neck. Should I ask her to leave?”
Though some fans considered this a joke and nothing more, others confirmed that is married to a husband named Jon. She’s also a football fan, and shares a season ticket for Crystal Palace with her husband.
In recent years, she has also had children and moved away from stand-up comedy into writing for TV to make more time for her family.
A Horrific Injury
In 2010, Holly Walsh took part in the annual Worthing birdman competition, where competitors attempt to “fly” off the town’s pier in homemade flyers.
Unfortunately, Holly landed awkwardly in the water, leading to her dislocating a shoulder and breaking her arm.

She was pictured being carried from the beach on a spinal board on the way to the hospital.
A spokesperson for the lifeboat team said: “It appears she entered the water wrong. It is thought she has a serious fracture above her elbow and a dislocated shoulder.
The inshore lifeboat brought her to the shore at Worthing and she was transferred to hospital by ambulance.”
In an appearance on 8 Out of 10 Cats not long after the accident, Holly Walsh appeared with a sling around her arm. She confirmed that she had 4 inches of metal in her arm.
What Is She Doing Now?
Since taking a backseat from live comedy after having a baby, Holly Walsh has focused on writing for TV.
Most recently, she has written for the BBC show Motherland, which depicts the chaotic lives of a group of parents.
Her new comedy series, The Other One, tells the story of two step-children who meet each other after the death of their shared father.
She admits that her favourite characters to write are “messed-up women.” She said:
“It’s basically therapy for us, Motherland. We spend a lot of time talking absolute rubbish. Out of that comes some of the best stuff.
And it’s sort of more fun writing about messed-up women dealing with other messed-up women than it is writing messed-up women dealing with messed-up men.”
