If you’re a sports fan, you’ll likely recognise the face of Emma Paton. She has been presenting Sky Sports’ flagship news programme since 2016.

The journalist and presenter has covered Transfer Deadline Days and the UEFA Euros as well as e-sports like the e-Premier League.

Emma Paton studied sports journalism at university and is now one of the major faces of the news channel.

But how much do we really know about Emma Paton?

Who Is Emma Paton?

Emma Paton grew up in Reigate, Surrey, and did A-Levels in Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish. She has been with Sky Sports News since December 2012, when she joined the team as a Sports Journalist.

Before her journalism career, though, Emma was a professional athlete. During her uni years, she competed nationally in the 400 metres and was one of the best female runners in the country.

However, injury cut short her professional career as an athlete, so she turned to journalism instead.

Now, she is a regular presenter of the news show, covering exciting events like the Transfer Deadline Day.

Just this year, she joined the Sky Sports Darts team as their presenter and recently spent a week in Blackpool covering the World Matchplay.

In fact, at home, she is a keen darts player, and said that getting the presenting gig for Sky Sports Darts was “living the dream.”

As one of few female faces in high-profile sports journalism, Emma Paton has spoken out about equality in the industry.

In an interview with Sports Gazette, she said:

“It’s not just women on screen, there’s women in production and in other areas of Sky Sports News. There still need to be more.

There’s still more men, but in terms of on screen, I think you need more female voices on these male dominant sports, and make it not a thing.”

Her Journalism Career

Emma Paton has always been interested in sport and studied Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University.

Afterwards, she started an MA in Sports Journalist at St Mary’s University College Twickenham.

It was during her MA that she got her first journalism job on the news desk of the British Olympic Association during the Summer Olympics in 2012.

Ultimately, she says her career goal is to remain with Sky Sports and become the “face of Sky Sports News.”

Thanks to her successful journalism, her net worth is estimated to be around $500,000, or £360,000.

Does She Have a Boyfriend?

It’s unclear if Emma Paton does have a boyfriend – however, she has been dropping hints on her Instagram that she does.

In a photo from 2018, she is pictured with a man named Hannibal, which is captioned: “When you buy a flat but he’s more excited about his new bike.”

The mystery man doesn’t feature often on Emma’s page, though pictures of the couple go back to 2015.

In a post from 2020 on Hannibal’s account, Emma can be seen taking romantic walks and cosying up with him. Most recently, the pair attended a wedding in Tuscany together.

Sky Sports Controversy

Last year, Sky Sports enraged viewers and presenters alike when news leaked that they were asking viewers whether their presenters were ‘good looking.’

The Sky Insight survey included a category asking viewers if fans thought Sky Sports News presenters were ‘sexy’, ‘good looking’, or ‘pretentious.’

Sky Sports News director Mark Alford confirmed that the survey was real. He defended the approach, saying the channel had to be “data-led.”

According to reports, at least one female presenter on Sky Sports only found out about the survey when it was sent to a family member.
