Vernon Kay has been gracing our screens since the early 00s and made a comeback last year on the 20th series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.

But the charming TV presenter hasn’t always made headlines for the right reasons. Though he and Tess Daly are one of TV’s most iconic couples, he found himself at the centre of a cheating scandal with a glamour model.

So what are the Vernon Kay cheating rumours, and are they true?

Vernon Kay Cheating

Vernon Kay found himself at the centre of a cheating scandal in 2010.

It emerged that Kay had been secretly texting and emailing Page Three model Rhian Sugden. At the time, the presenter had been married to Tess Daly for seven years.

Sugden also claimed that Kay had tried to arrange a private meeting between them at her hotel room.

When the flirty messages came to light, Kay publicly apologised on his BBC Radio 1 Show.

He said he had made “foolish decisions” and was sorry. “I’ve disappointed and let down my family and for that I am very sorry,” he added.

Eight years later, Sugden also apologised to Tess Daly in an open letter in The Sun. In the letter, she said:

“I’m sorry for the hurt and issues that were caused back in 2010. I deeply regret creating a friendship with Vernon and allowing him to continue speaking to me the way he did.

It should never have got to the stage it did. It was disrespectful, hurtful and I can only apologise for my actions.”

Vernon Kay returned to the spotlight in 2015 for the same reasons, as he had reportedly started texting Rhian Sugden again.

However, he said they only spoke to confirm details of the 2010 scandal, and nothing happened. Sugden is now married to Coronation Street star Oliver Mellor.

How Did He Meet His Wife?

Vernon Kay and Tess Daly met on T4, which Kay started presenting in 2001, and hit it off straight away. Kay proposed on Christmas Day 2002 and they were married the year after.

The wedding took place in Kay’s hometown of Bolton, in a rather quiet affair. They hosted their reception at Rivington Hall Barn, with DJ Brandon Block providing the music.

The wedding was also attended by former Big Brother winner Brian Dowling and Kay’s fellow T4 presenter June Sarpong.

Daly gave birth to their first daughter, Phoebe, in 2004. Their second daughter, Amber, was born five years later.

After the Vernon Kay cheating scandal was brought to light, Tess Daly took some time out of her book tour to focus on herself and her family. Though she eventually forgave Vernon, in 2017, she described their marriage as a “work in progress”.

Kay was adamant, however, that they had moved on from the incident, saying: “All that stuff is in the past, we’ve forgotten about that, we’ve moved on. It’s all gone. It’s disappeared.”

Vernon Kay Net Worth: From Radio to TV

Vernon Kay got his first break when he was spotted at the BBC Clothes Show Live and asked to start modelling.

Things spiralled and he was soon appearing on T4 and ITV. His longest presenting job was on All Star Family Fortunes.

He returned to the spotlight when he appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2020. He joined other well-known stars like Mo Farah, Jordan North, Giovanna Fletcher, and Shane Richie at Gwyrch Castle in North Wales.

Vernon charmed viewers with his hardiness and humour in camp and eventually made it to the final three of the competition. However, he finished third behind Jordan North and Giovanna Fletcher.

Tess Daly frequently posted support for her husband on social media while Kay was in the jungle. He was also surprised with a personal message after a gruelling trial, which read:

“From Tess, Phoebe and Amber. Remember you said you just wanted to make your girls proud?

Well we are watching every night, and we are all so proud.”
