He released his first EP in 2017, which amassed 28 million plays on Spotify. This made the young singer-songwriter the fastest ever unsigned artist to get to 25 million plays.

He was signed to Universal Music Group and started his career by supporting major artists like Sam Smith on tour.

A Star-Studded Family

In case you were wondering, yes, Doctor Who and The Thick of It star Peter Capaldi is related to the singer. The actor is his dad’s second cousin.

It sounds like Lewis was shocked by the revelation when he found out. He told the Daily Record:

“My dad and my aunties told me we were related to Peter a while ago, I think he’s my dad’s second cousin.

Whenever he came on the TV they’d always say, ‘You’re related to Malcolm Tucker’ or ‘You’re related to Doctor Who’.”

The two stars didn’t have much cause to meet until Lewis was planning the music video for his song ‘Someone You Loved’. They needed an actor to star in the video, and Lewis knew just the person for the job.

The video was made in partnership with the Live Life Give Life campaign, which encourages people to donate their organs. In the video, Peter Capaldi plays a grieving husband who gets to hear his wife’s heartbeat again after she donates her organs.

In the song, Capaldi opens up about recent family bereavements and the ending of a relationship. Speaking about writing ‘Someone You Loved’, the singer said:

“I was doing a recording session, and the chords we were working on over the song we were recording [inspired] these other melodies which came to me for the verse [for ‘Someone You Loved’], and I just recorded it on my phone and forgot about it.

After that, I took it to the studio with [producers] TMS, and we just bashed it out within half an hour.”

Does The Singer Have a Girlfriend?

The singer has had high-profile romances in the past, including with Paige Turley. The pair dated on and off between 2014 and 2016 after meeting at college, but the relationship didn’t last.

Turley found fame on Love Island, winning the dating show’s first-ever winter season in 2020. The same year, Capaldi successfully found love again.

The singer met Catherine Halliday in early 2020 and was said to be ‘smitten’ with the 21-year-old student.

However, there was yet more heartbreak, as the pair split after just seven months. The singer is now back on the market and said to be using celebrity dating app Raya to find love.
