The ITV soap’s next generation of stars will play a leading role in the storylines as the programme looks towards 2021.

    A source said:

‘Although the show is celebrating its 60th, it continues to evolve and the ‘Corrie’ young guns have got great stories from the 60th and into 2021′.

Next year is a chance to shine for some of the soap’s youngest cast members.

    The insider told Metro.co.uk:

‘We have a great talented young cast and it is their time to shine’.

Asked what lies ahead for the soap, the source shared:

‘Ray has manipulated Faye in order to keep Craig silent but in the wake of his scheme to destroy the Street coming to light, Faye and Craig’s involvement will be pinnacle and face them with consequences to deal with.

‘As well as being involved in an issue led teen story, Summer will be caught in the middle as scheming Todd tries to come between Billy and Paul while we also have Kelly back in the show – she has big material coming up but will the truth about Rick ever come to light?’.

Meanwhile, Bill Roache – who plays Ken Barlow on Coronation Street – recently admitted he’d happily play the role until he is 120.

    The veteran star said:

‘I’d still like to be in the show when I’m 90, when I’m 100 – even when I’m 120, if I can make it.

‘I love Coronation Street, I really do. I remember a director once saying you get scenes in it that are as good as anything you get in films, and that’s true. It’s a very happy place to be and I look forward to going into work’.
