The 43-year-old actor’s character Mick Carter – who he has played since 2013 – is set to try to come to terms with sexual abuse he experienced as a child in a new hard-hitting plot, and The Football Factory star “really hopes” he can do the storyline “justice”.

Speaking in a Q&A to promote his and daughter Dani Dyer’s new Spotify Original podcast series ‘Sorted With the Dyers’, he said:

‘I’ve got to say there’s not much I can say at the moment about it because we’ve started a new series and my storyline is about to kick off. I’m very excited about it.

‘And you know, it’s probably the greatest gift I’ve been given since being in EastEnders and I really hope I do it justice’.

What’s more, Dani joked her father has been telling her about upcoming EastEnders plots.

She said:

‘He keeps telling me the storylines!’

But Danny said:

‘Don’t declare that, we’ll get in major f****** trouble’.

The BBC One soap have teamed up with NSPCC, the UK’s leading children’s charity, and SurvivorsUK – a specialist service for male and non-binary sexual violence survivors – for Danny’s latest storyline.

The plot will look at Mick’s ongoing struggle with abandonment and understanding that what he experienced while he was in care was abuse, when his care worker Katy Lewis preyed on him when he was just 12 years old.

Danny and his daughter Dani’s new Spotify Original podcast series ‘Sorted With the Dyers’ is out now.
