Who Is The Richest British Singer?

Sunday Times Rich List 2020 has listed out the richest British singers and the list comes with a few surprises! 

One of the young musicians who made it into the list is Ed Sheeran who is also the highest earning musician for the under 30 list. Unfortunately, the second in line in the Under 30 list, Harry Styles did not make it into the main list. 

Who is the richest British singer? And what is their estimated fortune?

Number 11: Rod Stewart (£200 million)

Rod Stewart or Sir Roderick David Stewart is a 75-year-old British singer and songwriter. He has sold more than 120 million records worldwide making him one of the best selling musicians of all times! 

He started his career in the 1960s and his first single, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl was released in 1964. Remarkably, in 1994 he held the largest free rock concert of all times in Rio de Janeiro in front of a whopping 3.5 million people. 

Number 10: Ed Sheeran (£200 million)

Ed Sheeran or Edward Christopher Sheeran is 29 years old and he has a list of talents under his belt. He is an English singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. His debut album +, called plus, released in 2011 topped the UK Albums Chart. 

Interestingly, the album also came with his first single The A Team. More interestingly, the name of his second album was ×, called multiply and his third album was ÷, called divide. In the short span of time he has been in the music industry, he received numerous prestigious awards such as the 2016 Grammy Awards and 2015 Brit Awards. 

Number 9: Michael Flatley (£206 million)

Michael Flatlay is 62 years old and is known for his grooves and moves! He is a musician, dancer, and choreographer, internationally known for his masterpieces such as Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, Feet of Flames, and Celtic Tiger Live

He is revered for reinventing traditional Irish dance by adding new rhythms and movements. Interestingly, his name is recorded in the Guinness World Record for tap dancing 35 times per second. 

Number 8: Sir Ringo Starr (£260 million)

Sir Ringo Starr or Sir Richard Starkey is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and actor. Ultimately, he reached stardom for being the drummer for The Beatles. However, after the band broke up in 1970, he released several singles such as It Don’t Come Easy, Photograph, You’re Sixteen, and Back Off Boogaloo. 

His drumming is said to be one of the finest with modern drumming techniques such as the matched grip and usage of muffling devices on tonal rings. 

Number 7: Keith Richards (£270 million)

The 77-year-old musician, singer, and songwriter has come a long way and is still rocking the hearts of many fans, including the youngsters! One of his greatest achievements is being the co-founder, guitarist, secondary vocalist, and co-principal songwriter of The Rolling Stones.

Fun Fact: Keith also published a children’s book with his daughter Theodora titled Gus and Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar. 

Number 6: Olivia And Dhani Harrison (£270 million)

Olivia Harrison is The Beatles’ lead guitarist’s George Harrison’s widow while Dhani Harrison is George Harrison’s son. Being the son of a legendary musician, Dhani Harrison who is also a professional musician is trying to make his own mark in the music industry. 

On the other hand, Olivia Harrison has produced several films and documentaries revolving around her great late husband.

Mick Jagger is a rock legend. The 77-year-old is the lead singer and one of the founders of The Rolling Stones. He created an identity for The Rolling Stones with Keith Richards. The duo brought the band to a whole new height with their eclectic performances. 

Interestingly, Mick Jagger studied at the London School of Economics. He left the world of academics to pursue his passion towards music. Are we not glad that he did! 

Number 4: Sir Elton John (£360 million)

Sir Elton John is known for his unique blend of pop and rock as well as for his mind blowing and energetic live performances! Apparently, he started playing the piano when he was just four years old!

Fast forward a few decades later, he has sold more than 300 million records, has more than fifty top 40 hits in the UK Singles Chart, received five Grammy Awards, five Brit Awards, two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a Tony Award, and the Kennedy Center Honor. What a list!

Robyn Rihanna Fenty or how the world knows her, Rihanna is a brand of her own. This is the first time Rihanna is making it to the Sunday Times Rich List. It is a momentous event as she is now Britain’s wealthiest female musician and top three richest British singers! 

Coming from a poor and challenging background, she released her first single when she was 17 years old. She won the Grammy Awards eight times and her singles such as Umbrella, We Found Love, and Work are celebrated by fans worldwide. 

Apart from her terrifically successful singing career, her business ventures which are cosmetic brands, Fenty Beauty and lingerie line, Savage X Fenty and fashion line, Fenty also significantly contribute to her wealth. 

Number 2: Lord Lloyd-Webber (£800 million)

One of the two richest men in the UK’s music industry, Andrew Lloyd Webber is an English composer and theatrical producer. He plays a crucial role in revitalising the British and American musical theatre. 

Amazingly, he has composed 21 musicals and he has an Oscar, an Emmy, three Grammys, and six Tonys under his belt. He is often said to be the most influential person in the British theatre scene. 

Number 1: Sir Paul McCartney (£1.2 billion)

The 78-year-old English singer, songwriter, musician, composer, and record and film producer is another of The Beatles members. He was the co-lead vocalist and bassist for the legendary band. After The Beatles disbanded, he formed the band Wings with his first wife and went on to produce international top 10 singles and albums. 

His most famous Beatles songs are And I Love Her, Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby, and Blackbird
