The actor was best known for narrating the Thomas The Tank Engine series Thomas And Friends, voicing the children’s TV programme for 13 series after replacing Sir Ringo Starr in 1991.

Angelis’ agent has confirmed he died suddenly while at home with his wife on Saturday (30.05.20).

And tributes to the late actor – who also starred in TV shows such as Casualty, The Bill, G.B.H., Holby City and Heartbeat – have already appeared on social media.

Comedian Matt Lucas wrote on Twitter:

‘Michael Angelis was one of the greatest TV actors I’ve ever seen. His work with Alan Bleasdale was tremendous. What a loss. (sic)’.

Game of Thrones star John Bradley also hailed Angelis’ impact on the TV industry.

He said on the micro-blogging platform:

‘To be in both ‘boys from the blackstuff’ and ‘GBH’ is really leaving your mark on telly. He was superb in both. (sic)’.

Angelis last appeared on TV back in 2012, when he starred in Good Cop.

The late actor was married to Coronation Street actress Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt, from 1991 to 2001.

Angelis later married Jennifer Khalastchi.
