Janet Vera Street-Porter was born on December 27^th, 1946. She was born in England. More specifically, she was born in Brentford, Middlesex, and grew up in Fulham, West London and Perivale.

In Fulham, Street-Porter attended the Peterborough Primary and Junior Schools. Then, she attended the Lady Margaret Grammar School for Girls in Parsons Green for the O and A-levels in English, Art and History.

It was while she was 16 or 17 years old and during her exams that the English broadcaster shared stories of an illegal abortion on an episode of Loose Women.

“I just did not know what to do and back then abortions were illegal, they were very, very hard to get.”

In 1971, Janet Street-Porter became fashion editor for the Evening Standard.

Her first few gigs on television were reporting for shows like The London Weekend Show and Saturday Night People with Russell Harty and Clive James.

She then became editor of the Channel Four series Network 7 that went on to win a BAFTA in 1988.

In 1992, Street Porter began working with BBC but left two years later.

Then in 1999, she became editor of The Independent on Sunday for two years.

Since then, Janet Street-Porter has appeared on our telly many more times appearing on BBC panel shows, and even starred in Deadline, an ITV reality show.
