The 57-year-old TV presenter – who has hosted the real life competition for UK viewers since 2009 – will reprise his role in Netflix’s upcoming comedy about Icelandic singers Lars Erickssong (Ferrell) and Sigrit Ericksdottir (Rachel McAdams) as they represent their country at the annual international event.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, Graham will appear in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga as a commentator delivering his usual cutting remarks about the acts.

The movie is set to hit the streaming platform next month, and the cast also boasts the likes of James Bond legend Pierce Brosnan as Will’s on-screen father, and Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens will portray another singer in the competition.

Some actual ‘Eurovision’ contestants – including Austria’s Conchita Wurst, Sweden’s Loreen, Israel’s Netta, and Norway’s Alexander Rybak – will also be part of the film.

Pop icons ABBA – who triumphed with ‘Waterloo’ in 1974 – will make an appearance, too, although it will be a flashback clip of their winning performance in Brighton 46 years ago.

Leading man Will is a fan of the competition itself, and he “always thought” it deserved the big screen treatment.

He previously said:

‘Given the spectacle, the campness and the intoxicating music in ‘Eurovision’ I always thought, “Someone is gonna make a movie about this,” and no-one ever has.

‘So we got the ball rolling to make one’.

Last weekend, Graham hosted Eurovision: Come Together which saw the UK vote ‘Waterloo’ as the nation’s favourite performance from the contest’s rich history.

The BBC announced a whole range of programming to make up for this year’s event being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Graham said:

‘Eurovision offers a real escapism for people, which is something we need more than ever throughout these times.

‘This year people at home can celebrate the amazing spirit of the event and hopefully get the chance to take their mind off the current situation for a few hours’.
