The TV presenter has been a host of Grand Designs since 1999 and prior to that, he was a designer. Hailing from Bedfordshire, England, he studied the history of art and architecture at Cambridge University.
After his graduation, Kevin started his own lighting design practise and manufacturing business called ‘McCloud Lighting’. Some of his remarkable works include the vegetable ceiling in the food halls at Harrods, lighting fittings at Ely Cathedral, Edinburgh Castle, the Savoy Hotel and the Dorchester Hotel.
He is also the author of a long list of books including Kevin McCloud’s Decorating Book (1990), The Techniques of Decorating (1995) and Kevin McCloud’s Lighting Book (1995), The Complete Decorator (1996), and Choosing Colours (2003).

“I grew up in an early 1960s box. It was a small three-bedroom house. My father bought it unfinished and finished it off and then extended it.
“Very thin walls, early 60s single-glazed building. Freezing cold in winter, typical of the time but built with a degree of optimism about where we were going.”

In an interview with Philip Schofield and Christine Lampard on This Morning, he commented about the studio’s building.
“London is perhaps one of the greatest architectural landscapes of all. It’s home to fantastic buildings – just like this one. Which, in the tradition of chaos and order, is just the dog’s dinner, isn’t it? Some nice paint on it, though.”

Undeniably, Kevin is busy around the clock and he regrets not having enough time for his family. Apparently, he works 52 weeks a year and family holidays come only after his filming schedule.
“The one great loss to me in 15 years of filming is that I don’t see my kids enough.”

“I’m quite shy. Television presents an amplified version of yourself. When I’m on camera I’m pumping more adrenaline, I’m being a bit more engaging than I am in everyday conversation, but that’s normal, isn’t it?”
“If I welcomed people into my lovely home every week in the pages of a magazine they’d soon see how incredibly dull it is. It’s important to maintain a bit of mystique. The more of your private life you put into the public domain, the smaller your private life becomes.”

Kevin married his wife Suzanna McCloud or Zani who is an interior designer in 1996 and the couple had been together until late last year. They have two children named Milo and Elsie. Kevin also has two other children from his previous relationship named Hugo and Grace.
Their family home, an Elizabethan 500-year old farmhouse is in Somerset and Kevin had previously described it as chaotic.
“I’m terribly fastidious.
“I like symmetry and neatness, but my house is as chaotic as any other family’s.
“I come home, say ‘Hi’ and drag my children away from the various screens in the house if I can, then sit around like a nerd reading books about the history of engineering before I head off again.
“It’s a weirdly itinerant way of life.”

Late last year, Kevin made it into the headlines reading ‘Kevin McCloud left his wife of 23 years.’
Indeed, he did walk out of his home and marriage.
His spokesman said that,
“I can confirm that, sadly, Kevin and Suzanna separated. We won’t be making any further comment.”
Expectedly, Suzanna was shaken.
According to Daily Mail, “Zani is absolutely devastated. She came back home one day to find that Kevin had taken his things and left.”
