He’s one of the world’s best-selling rap artists but with unpaid taxes and bills to his name, what actually is Tyga’s net worth?

Tyga’s net worth is 3 million dollars (£2,294,157).

What is his background?..

Tyga was born Micheal Ray Stevenson, sometimes written as Michael Ray Nguyen Stevenson, on November 19th 1989.

His mother is of Vietnamese descent and his father is Jamaican.

It has been debated as to what kind of childhood Tyga had – some sources state that he grew up in the poor area of Compton, but a video was leaked from the unaired show, Bustas, showing him living in a big home in the Valley with Range Rovers.

Speaking about the video, he tweeted:

‘When u 14 an ambitious u don’t give a f*k about anything. Scripted tv isn’t that what we all live for. Hahahaha’.

His entrance into the hip hop world…

After growing up listening to Lil Wayne and Eminem, Tyga decided that he wanted to try rapping.

It is disputed as to how he got his stage name. On the leaked video he states that his mum thought he looked like Tiger Woods and it stuck, whereas he has also stated that it stands for ‘Thank you God always’.

He started releasing demos and mixtapes and his 2007 mixtape, Young On Probation, caught his cousin Travie McCoy’s attention. Tyga signed to DCD2 records (then known as Decaydence Records) and a year later he released No Introduction.

His debut album featured the song, Coconut Juice, which featured Travie McCoy.

His second studio album, Careless World: Rise of the Last King was released by the label Young Money Entertainment on February 21st, 2012.

The album produced four billboard hot 100 singles: ‘Far Away’; ‘Still Got It’; ‘Rack City’; and ‘Faded’.

The Rack City movie…

In 2012, Tyga produced, co-directed and starred (as a non-sexual character) in the adult film, Rack City: The XXX Movie.

He also created original songs for the movie as well as using the singles ‘Rack City’ and ‘Faded’.

His later albums…

Hotel California, his third studio album, was released in April 9th 2013. It had duets with Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Future, 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa.

At the time this was his worst album to date – it had just 54,000 United States sales in the first week.

He revealed that he would be releasing a new album in 2014 and admitted:

‘I felt like Hotel California was more commercial and I made more radio-type records. This album is straight rap’.

However, by mid-2014 there was still no album.

In October of that year Tyga announced that his record label, Young Money Entertainment, was holding his album hostage despite it being completed. He even went as far to say that he was thinking of leaking the album himself!

In December he tweeted that his album, The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty would be independently released. It was finally released in June 2015 and became his worst selling album to date.

Kanye West signed Tyga to the GOOD Music label in September 2016.

The following year he released his fifth album, B*tchImTheSh*t2 which was a sequel to his 2011 mixtape.

His sixth studio album, Kyoto, didn’t do well either and even failed to chart anywhere.

The 2018 single, ‘Taste’ was seen as being Tyga’s reintroduction to the music spotlight. It peaked at number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100.

This singles success saw him release more music, including the singles ‘Swish’ and ‘Dip’ featuring Nicki Minaj.

His seventh album, Legendary, was released in June 2019.

Tyga’s net worth increased with his TV appearances…

In 2015, he started his own reality show, Kingin’ with Tyga.

As can be seen, Tyga likes to live a life of luxury, with multiple fast cars, a fancy house and even a gold ATM!

The show ran for two seasons but was later cancelled.

In 2017, Tyga became a series regular in the third series of the TV series Scream.

He has also starred in multiple films including, Dope; Barbershop: The Next Cut; and Once Upon a Time in Venice.

His personal life…

In 2011, Tyga met Blac Chyna at an after party. The pair became close and she even starred in the music video for his single ‘Rack City’.

They officially became a couple in November 2011 and on October 16, 2012, the couple became parents to a son, King Cairo Stevenson.

The rapper later bought a mansion in Calabasas, Los Angeles, for $6.5 million.

Blac Chyna announced that the pair were engaged in December 2012 but they broke up in 2014.

For a long time the media speculated that Tyga and fellow reality star Kylie Jenner were dating. However, due to their age difference and the fact that the legal age of consent is 18 in the state of California, the pair didn’t confirm their relationship status until days after her 18th birthday.

They split up in 2017.

The unpaid bills…

Tyga rents many of his houses but isn’t necessarily the best tenant. He owes multiple landlords hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He owes one landlord $124,000, another $50,000 and also has tax issues!

In 2015 it was reported that he owed $19,000 in taxes, and the year before that it was announced that he owes $120,000.

His G-Wagon was repossessed in 2016 after he had not paid for the vehicle for numerous months.

However, in August 2018 he announced that he was suing Birdman and Lil Wayne (the owners of the Young Money record label) for not paying him for several years.
