What is her background?..
Camila Carraro Mendes was born on June 29, 1994 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
She has Brazilian parents, Gisele and Victor, and even spent a year living in Brazil when she was ten!
She also frequently jumped from one place to another in United States – once admitting she moved twelve times before she turned 18 – mainly because her father was in the army, but also due to her parents’ divorce.
Florida is where she mainly calls home and attended the American Heritage School there.
In 2016, alongside her Riverdale co-star Cole Sprouse, she graduated from the New York University Tisch School of the Arts (part of the Stonestreet Film Acting Conservatory).
How does Camila Mendes’ age affect her acting roles?..
Camila’s first acting role was in an IKEA advert.
She stayed out of the limelight whilst she was in school.
In 2016 she was cast as Veronica Lodge in CW’s Riverdale, which is based on the Archie comics.

For her work as Veronica she won the Teen Choice Awards ‘Choice Scene Stealer’ in 2017.
She hasn’t been in any other TV shows, but the American actress has starred in multiple films, including: The New Romantic (2018), The Perfect Date (2019) and Coyote Lake (release dated to be confirmed).
Another film that actress Camila Mendes has in post-production is the Netflix original, Windfall. Talking about the movie, she said:
‘What’s nice about that is I’m playing an adult—a young, married woman—and not someone in high school’.
In a recent interview, the 25-year old revealed that she would like to star in more dynamic, prestigious roles.
Hopefully her film Palm Springs, which is in post-production, can do so.
What’s the latest on her love life?..
It’s no secret that Camila began dating her Riverdale co-star, Charles Melton – who plays Reggie Mantle, in 2018.
However, the pair broke up late in 2019 and Camila has removed all photos she had with him on Instagram.
One of her latest Instagram posts features yet another of her co-stars, Drew Ray Tanner – who plays Fangs Fogarty – with a cryptic caption.

She’s been a victim of racism in Hollywood…
Despite coming from a Latin American background, and identifying as Latin American, when Camila does audition for roles of that descent, she is commonly told that:
‘You don’t look Latina enough’.
In an interview with People magazine, she said:
‘I really appreciate how these two cultures created who I am. I am a Brazilian of blood, with all the extended family of Brazilians, but I was born and raised in the United States.
‘When I go to Brazil, I feel like an American, and in the United States, I always realise the traits that make me Brazilian’.
Her struggles with eating disorders…
Recently, Camila opened up about her recovery from disordered eating.
‘Whenever I do feel insecure, I go back to health. What can I do that’s healthy? Health is what’s important, not appearance. That mentality is what takes me out of the insecure, anxious thoughts’.
Her older sister, Kiara, also struggled with eating disorders and so Camila has teamed up with Project HEAL.

She’s admitted that she doesn’t want to be this super-thin role model for the young people who follow her, so always tries to do what is best for her mentally, not aesthetically.
