Wes Nelson’s Job Before Love Island

Wes Nelson’s Job Before Love Island

Wes Nelson’s job (and entire life) was about to change drastically when he made the bold decision to appear on Love Island 2018.

Before entering the love island villa aged 20 years old, Wes worked as an electrical and nuclear systems design engineer (crikey, that’s a mouthful!)

Before his stint on reality TV, the Love Island star was busy designing, building, running or decommissioning nuclear power stations. This job, as you can probably imagine, didn’t leave Wes short of cash. During a Love Island challenge, it was revealed that the engineer had splashed out £1000 on a date once!

Wes’s impressive job at such a young age was definitely a refreshing change from the usual ‘model’ or ‘social media influencer’. Before entering the villa, Wes was confident that his ‘intellect’ and ‘skills’ would make him stand out from the other contestants on the show.

Describing himself as ‘very academic’ Wes did well at Alsager School before attending Newcastle College.

What Does Wes Nelson’s Job Entail?

Wes tried to keep his job pretty ‘hush hush’ when he first appeared on Love Island. Apparently his job was quite ‘secret’. Intriguing…

Apparently the average salary of £35,755 a year – definitely not too shabby! Design engineers need to have an understanding of the science behind nuclear facilities and be able to draw from technical, mathematical and design knowledge.

Even fans were impressed that the Dancing On Ice star had managed to bag himself a job like that at such a young age. One Twitter user said:

‘It’s clever stuff and it blows my mind every time the design engineers at work try to explain to me what they do #loveisland.’

After leaving the villa, Wes decided he wanted to focus on his new showbiz opportunities, telling Caroline Flack in an appearance on Love Island After Sun that:

‘I’m just gonna see what opportunities there are other than my job and things. But I am enjoying it and I spoke to work and I think they are alright with me.

‘I think they understand that I might not be coming back in a hurry.’

    Who Is He Dating?

Wes made quite an impression in the villa after ditching Laura Anderson for new girl Megan Barton Hanson. Wes and Megan continued to date for a further six months before calling it quits, around the time that Wes was taking part in the 2019 series of Dancing On Ice.

Cracks began to form after Megan got jealous of Wes’ dance partner Vanessa Bauer. The star accused the professional skater of a ‘tactical breakup’ in order to get close to Wes.

In spite of trying to make things work, the couple announced their split in January 2019. They released a joint statement after much speculation:

‘It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well under a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much, we will remain separate…’
