Barry Mannakee, Charles Or Trump: Diana‘s Love Life Revealed

We all know that Princess Di had many ‘lovers’ (including her bodyguard Barry Mannakee) but do you know everything about her affair? Plus other facts about Di?

Get prepared to learn all there is to know about the Peoples’ Princess…

1. Diana Had An Affair With Her Bodyguard Barry Mannakee In 1985

Diana Princess of Wales fell for her (married) bodyguard Barry Mannakee. In 1985, Mr Mannakee was made a royal protection officer for the princess, meaning that the two of them spent a lot of time together. She once said that she saw him as a ‘father figure’ but, naturally, rumours started to circulate! He was INSTANTLY dismissed and sent to the diplomatic protection squad instead.

However, Diana’s (supposed) greatest love was in a tragic accident – he was a passenger on a motorbike that crashed into a ford fiesta – and died almost instantly. Yikes!

Diana’s voice coach Peter Settelen had tape recorded their conversations and she mentioned how she was deeply in love with ‘someone who worked in this environment’. Oooer! She believed that Barry Mannakee’s death was not an accident and also had a conspiracy theory:

“He was the greatest love I’ve ever had,” she said,“I was quite happy to give it all up …  just to go off and live with him. And he kept saying he thought it was a good idea too. “[But] it was all found out and he was chucked out [of royal protection]. Then he was killed. I think he was bumped off.”

2. She’s Buried On An Island

Diana was killed in a tragic accident in 1997, whilst travelling on the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. Like the rest of her family, Diana was supposed to be buried in the Spencer family vault of a church. However, the plan was altered to find a more private location – AKA an island in the middle of a lake. The island sits in the middle of Oval Lake at Althorp Park; her family home.

3. Princess Diana Was Pursued By Donald Trump

Back in the 90s, the current POTUS ran in the same circles as the likes of Princess Diana. Trump was seated at the same table as Diana at an event.

With visions of becoming the ‘People’s Prince’, Trump attempted (but failed miserably) to woo her with a free membership at his golf club.

It didn’t stop there though, he even sent her flowers to Kensington Palace and spoke publicly about his attraction to the Princess!

The President has since denied all claims about his love for the Princess of Wales, stating he only met her once. However, her friend Selina Scott has gone against him! She has stated that he pretty much stalked Diana. Who do you think is right?

4. Prince Charles Dated Princess Diana’s Sister First!

Prince Charles and Diana’s sister Sarah had a fling in the late 70s, which is how Diana ended up meeting the prince. Diana was 16 when she met the prince at a family gathering – he was TWELVE years her senior at the time! Talking about the event, Sarah said:

“I introduced them. I’m Cupid.”

5. Her Depression Over Her Marriage That Included ”Three People”

In her interview with Panorama’s Martin Bashir (which attracted an audience of 22.8 million viewers and remains one of the BBC’s most watched programmes ever), the Princess openly discussed her depression. A groundbreaking thing to do at the time, especially for a royal!

She spoke about her anguish over her marriage and about Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles. She infamously said there were “three people” in her marriage. Can you imagine?!

Diana also spoke about her battle with depression. In new tapes, Diana is quoted as saying:

“I was so depressed, I was trying to cut my wrists with razor blades.”

She even mentioned her eating disorder:

“The bulimia started the week after we got engaged…My husband put his hand on my waistline and said something like, ‘Oh, a bit chubby here, aren’t we?’”
