Remember the Holes Cast? This Is What They Look Like Now!

Which of the Holes cast have changed from their days where they were forced to dig holes in the desert?!

The 2003 filmHoles‘ was based on the classic book written by Louis Sachar (directed by Andrew Davis) and is considered to have kickstarted Shia LaBeouf’s career.

Hector “Zero” (Khleo Thomas) – THEN

Zero was one of the young adults at the detention center who, in his own words, really like to dig holes- lucky that’s what he did day-in-day-out then! It was Hector’s great-great-great-grandmother, Madame Zeroni (Eartha Kitt), the one-legged gypsy, that placed a curse on Stanley’s family.

After Holes, Khleo decided to venture into the music business after becoming close friends with rapper, Bow Wow. He’s currently signed to the Executive Music Group label and recently released an EP- Raised in the 90s.

Ricky “Zigzag” (Max Kasch) – THEN

Zigzag wasn’t the nicest of boys in the Holes cast. He really didn’t like the fact that Stanley was teaching Hector how to read, and the pair got into a fight, which ended in Hector chokin out Zigzag…nasty.

Like his castmate, Kasch also decided to leave his acting career and instead focus on music. Although he did appear in several films after Holes – playing a minor role in Whiplash and starring in the indie film, Still Waiting.

José “Magnet” (Miguel Castro) – THEN

Sent to the camp for stealing a pricey dog from a pet shop, Magent is first portrayed simply as kleptomaniac, although it’s later revealed that he’s actually a very compassionate boy; it’s this perceived love for stealing that earns him his name, Magnet.

Miguel Castro decided to stray from his childhood acting career and can now be found turning tables instead as DJ MIGUELittle! Alongside that he’s apparently a “master glasses repairman”, interesting combination of career choices…but you know, who am I to judge? Quite the family man he lives with his wife and their four kids.

Warden (Sigourney Weaver) – THEN

The Warden was a real force to be reckoned with, you didn’t want to get on the wrong side of her and if you did you could probably expect a scratch from her rattlesnake venom nails – who was worse: Warden (Sigourney Weaver) or Mr Sir (Jon Voight)?

Weaver was already a well-established actor before her role in Holes, rising to fame playing Dana in the classic fantasy film, Ghostbusters. She’s now best known for playing the caring Dr. Grace Augustine in the sci-film film, Avatar. It’s also announced that she will be appearing in both of the sequels, Avatar 2 & 3.

Dr. Pendanski (Tim Blake Nelson) – THEN

Even though Dr. Pendanski comes across as a decent guy, well in comparison to Warden Walker that is, he was actually far from it. He constantly taunts Zero about not being able to read and tells Stanley that he’d have more luck teaching his shovel to read.

Nelson’s career really took off in the early noughties after being part of the Holes cast and he’s starred in countless movies and shows. He’s currently playing the loveable Randy in the Netflix comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Sam (Dulé Hill) – THEN

Sam was probably one of the most likeable characters in the entire film, the kind onion-farmer only wanted to do one thing, fix things, and most of the time this involved some far fetched onion remedy he’d come up with. He struck up a relationship with the camp’s teacher, Kate, offering to fix things for her in return for peaches, but faced abuse due to his African American heritage.

As well as being a hugely talented actor, Hull is also a trained tap dancer! More recently it’s been announced that he will become a regular cast member for the eighth season of Suits portraying senior partner, Alex Williams.

Theodore “Armpit” (Byron Cotton) – THEN

When Stanley arrived at the camp, Armpit was assigned as his mentor, we’re not sure how pleased Stanley would have been about this taking into account the aptly named Armpit’s impressive body odour.

After being part of the Holes cast, Cotton had a few small roles, portraying David in teen-comedy, Extreme Movie as well as playing Bear in the crime thriller series, The Shield. However, it looks like his passion now lies behind the camera instead of in front of it, as more recently he has been part of the production crew for several TV series.

Stanley (Shia LaBeouf) – THEN

The wrongly accused schoolboy Stanley Yelnats IV, who was sentenced to eighteen months at Camp Green Lake for apparently stealing some shoes donated to an orphanage – legendary. Believing he is plagued with the curse of the Yelnats, Stanley believes he is destined for bad luck forever.

Although originally growing up on one of everyone’s favourite TV Show – Even Stevens – LaBeouf was still relatively unknown when he starred in Holes. Most recently he portrayed the iconic tennis player, John McEnroe, in the Swedish drama Borg vs McEnroe. Oh – and he had that fight with Tom Hardy

Alan “Squid” (Jake M. Smith) – THEN

Alan was a bit of a wrong un’ in the Holes cast, sent to the camp for apparently beating up a police officer who confiscated his beer bottle. He later received the nickname “Squid” for being pretty gassy, shall we say.

After Holes, Smith had a few acting roles starring alongside Uma Thurman in the comedy, Motherhood. Last we heard though he is now the dean of students at an alternative school in New York.

“Kissin’ Kate” Barlow (Patricia Arquette) – THEN

Katherine Barlow had a serious case of split personality disorder, from the kind and caring school teacher that she once was, to the vengeful, bitter murderer she later becomes, nobody wanted a kiss from Kissin’ Kate…

Arquette is a widely celebrated actress, best recognised for her role as Alison DuBois, the physic medium in the supernatural drama, Medium. Her performance earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress as well as several Golden Globe nominations.
