Nanny McPhee Cast Then And Now

What have the Brown children AKA the Nanny McPhee cast been up to since causing chaos on our screens back in the day?

It was one of our favourite childhood films along with Matilda, Daddy Day Care, Mary Poppins… and don’t get us started on its sequel, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.

It’s not as sweet, but its saltiness and dark disciplining of children is what made it such a box office smash.

The films are based on the Nurse Matilda books written by Christianna Brand from 1964-1974.

Simon Brown (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) – THEN

The oldest child of the Brown bunch, Simon seems to possess every quality each of his siblings are known for. He’s smart, mischievous, charming and, naturally, the ringleader of the group.

We were as shocked as Colin Firth when little Simon yells “you never listen!”.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Simon Brown) – NOW

Thomas is still bagging roles in big productions nowadays. If you watch Game of Thrones (who doesn’t?), you’ll remember him as Jojen Reed.

He also voiced Ferb in Disney’s Phineas and Ferb for a solid eight years! He’s in Maze Runner: The Death Cure and currently filming Dragon Rider.

Tora Brown (Eliza Bennett) – THEN

The second oldest child of the Brown family, Tora was definitely more sensible than Simon. Given her age, she was very protective of her younger siblings, especially Lily and baby Agatha!

Eliza Bennett (Tora Brown) – NOW

Eliza Bennett played the lead roles in a Sound of Music-esque film called The von Trapp Family: A Life of Music and Grimm’s Snow White.

She starred in a black comedy on MTV in 2017 called Sweet/Vicious and now spends her time in LA with her little pup.

Sebastian Brown (Samuel Honywood) – THEN

This cheeky 7-year old was always up to no good. That first picture here says it all, really.

Samuel Honywood (Sebastian Brown) – NOW

Judging by Samuel’s pics, we can see that he enjoys clubbing with his mates once in a while and attended Oxford Brooke University.

After graduating, he even visited Thailand – which uni student hasn’t been to Asia, let’s be honest – and now uploads tracks on Soundcloud under the name ‘Honywood’.

Evangeline (Kelly Macdonald) – THEN

The family’s scullery maid Evangeline went from rags to riches was one of the characters we all rooted for.

Nanny McPhee even made snow in August with her magical powers for the wedding of Evangeline and Cedric.

Kelly Macdonald (Evangeline) – NOW

Nowadays, Kelly Macdonald is still acting in major productions, winning all sorts of awards like BAFTAs and Emmys for her roles.

She’s also a Disney princess if you didn’t know – Princess Merida in Brave!

Her latest projects include The Child In Time opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, Holmes & Watson and an upcoming BBC2/Netflix series called Giri/Haji.

Lily Brown (Jennifer Ray Daykin) – THEN

She may look like she could hurt much more than a fly in this first picture but Lily had passion, was certainly imaginative and a bit of a bookworm.

Jennifer Rae Daykin (Lily Brown) – NOW

We’re not entirely sure what Jennifer is up to these days regarding her acting career.

According to her Instagram, she’s been living her best life with all her mates outside of the spotlight…going to parties, Game of Thrones studio tours, festivals and ski trips to the Alps! We’re definitely jealous.

Eric Brown (Raphaël Coleman) – THEN

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the classic ‘glasses falling down the nose’ look and the suit points to Eric being the nerd of the family.

Raphaël Coleman (Eric Brown) – NOW

Nowadays, Raphael is totally unrecognisable and no, not just because he’s grown up. According to his Instagram, he’s now a wildlife biologist/divemaster/nomad/creator and a zoologist!

That’s a mouthful. He’s been travelling the world to places like Bolivia and if anything is evident from his pictures, it’s that he’s nothing like Eric Brown!

Christianna Brown (Holly Gibbs) – THEN

The last of the Brown children on our list and the twin sister of Sebastian, Chrissy was a cutie!

Nowadays, little Holly Gibbs is not acting anymore but instead pursuing a Fine Arts degree at Central Saints Martins Uni in London. Her Instagram is plastered with pictures of the tools and materials she works with.

Lady Adelaide Stitch (Angela Lansbury) – THEN

Great Aunt Adelaide had us in stitches (see what we did there?) during the confession scene between Evangeline and Cedric.

Angela Lansbury (Lady Adelaide Stitch) – NOW

Nowadays, Angela Lansbury is still taking Hollywood by storm at the age of 93.

She clearly has no intention of stopping either, despite having an Honorary Oscar and a damehood from Queen Lizzy!

Meanwhile we deem it a success when we get out of bed on a Monday morning for work!

Mrs. Selma Quickly (Celia Imrie) – THEN

The Brown kids really did their best to get rid of this one – and quickly too!

Celia Imrie (Mrs. Selma Quickly) – NOW

Nowadays, Celia is still enjoying the spotlight. She made her U.S debut in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and achieved her first UK Top 40 single along with Lily James for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!

Cedric Brown (Colin Firth) – THEN

As a single father of seven (yes, seven!) children, it would be fair to say that Cedric Brown was under a lot of stress!

Not only were his kids a handful (that would be an understatement), but he was also under pressure to find a new wife to pay back his antagonistic Aunt Adelaide with the money he would receive from the dowry.

Colin Firth (Cedric Brown) – NOW

IRL, seasoned actor Colin Firth is busy enough taking care of his three children.

In 2016 we watched him bring back Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Baby, Harry Hart in the Kingsman sequel and just last year he returned as Harry Bright in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

You may recognise Imelda from her role as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter movies. She was also in Pride, Vera Drake and Chicken Run.

Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) – THEN

At first, the children didn’t take kindly to the newcomer and tried to force her out like they had done with their father’s potential suitors, but in time the children learned how to behave and grew to love her.

Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhee) – NOW

The actress recently appeared in the live action remake of Beauty and The Beast alongside Emma Watson and this year is set to star in the latest instalment in the Men in Black franchise!
