School days are the best days of your life -or so they say anyway- so what better way to reminisce about your adolescent years than by sitting down with a nice, hot cuppa and catching up on the Educating… series?

The series brought schools originally dubbed as some of the worst in the entire country – and in desperate need of change – straight to our living-rooms.

Overrun by troublemakers, jokesters and burnouts – these high schools were among the worst performing academies in the whole of the UK. Yikes!

The best way to correct bad behaviour? Get the cameras rolling and document everything of course!

But let’s face it, us fans were immediately hooked by the fly-on-the-wall format that allowed for an up close and personal look at the students and teachers of these now iconic schools.

Channel 4’s increasingly popular Educating… series first aired in September 2011 and is scheduled to return for its sixth series in 2018/2019.

While term time might be over for previously featured schools, there are plenty of secrets about this legendary docudrama that remain unknown. Allow us…

Educating Yorkshire

We know you will be shocked by how much work went into creating Educating Yorkshire…we certainly were!

1. Researching The School

Before the cameras can even start rolling, the crew spend around six weeks at the school they plan to feature on the show.

Only after the observation period is over will the production team decide to go ahead with filming or not!

2. Intensive Filming Period

While I’m sure the students would love avoiding class for filming all year round, this of course isn’t how things worked out.

The camera crew film everything over a seven week period with the exception of a few key events throughout the year where they will return to the school i.e. GCSE results day.

3. Eyes And Ears Everywhere…

During this intense filming stage, there can be as many as 75 cameras and 90 microphones placed strategically around the school.
