9. Highgate Cemetery

Highgate Cemetery is a graveyard located in north London with some parts of the cemetery dating as far back as 1839.

Highgate Cemetery was created as part of a plan to provide the surrounding areas with seven very large and equally modern cemeteries, which are known to many as the “Magnificent Seven”.

It is estimated that there are approximately 170,000 people buried in 53,000 graves located across the East and West part of the Cemetery.

Throughout the years, there have been many famous faces buried in Highgate Cemetery’s Gothic tombs.

Perhaps the most famous burial in Highgate Cemetery is that of Karl Marx, who’s tomb has been the sight of two attempted bombings from 1965 to 1970.
