Growing up in the 00s made for a lot of embarrassing moments that we all look back on and think what in the world were we thinking. It’s just like any era really, except that the 00s was a time when technology started taking over everything and we started to forget about certain things.

There are some moments of our childhood that we might look back and want to change. Like those awful fashion choices we use to make or some of the friendships we decided to have at the time. But these are the small instances in our lives that make us who we are today!

Let’s take another trip down memory lane and see how many of these typically 00s things you will remember from the last decade and a bit. Here are 17 things you’ll definitely always remember from the 00s…

Beware, some of these memories are CRINGEWORTHY.

1. Checkered scarf.

Remember when everyone used to wear these in different colours. Everyone would turn up to school on own clothes day with this scarf on.

We really didn’t care if this scarf went with the outfit that we had on or if it was the same colour as any item of clothing but that really didn’t matter to us. It wasn’t as if we wore it to keep warm either. This is one of those fashion pieces that were glad it stayed in the 00s.

2. Getting your ears pierced in Claire’s.

Claire’s was always the one place we would all go if we wanted to get our ears pierced. Every single girl in my school would agree that they wouldn’t have thought of a better place to go to do the deed.

Was it just me who religiously cleaned my pierced ears day and night for 6 weeks with the Claire’s solution?

3. Then going to buy a “best friends” necklace for your bffl.

We all had a best friend in school that we thought would be best buds with throughout our whole lives and for the majority of us this was never the case.

If you’re still best friends with your best friend from school that shared the same necklace as you then congratulations! But we bet you both still don’t have those necklaces you promised to keep on forever. We don’t blame you, they were always quite tacky.

4. Slogan T’shirts.

We upgraded from Tammy slogan tee’s to Topshop ones. Both as cringe as the other. Out wardrobes would be filled of t-shirts that said stuff like this one them…

Thankfully we got rid of these after a few years, but it definitely took us a bit longer than it should.

5. Dolly shoes from Primark that fall apart after three days.

If you wore these shoes in the rain you were f*cked. If you wore these shoes in any sort of weather, you would be too!

That didn’t stop us from buying pair after pair after pair. The amount of cheap dolly shoes we all went through in the 00s was a joke. We should’ve saved all the money spent of cheap ones to buy ones that lasted longer than three days.

6. Taking loads of pictures of you and your friends’ trip to town on a Saturday afternoon.

On your digital camera you forced your mum to get you for Christmas. Digital cameras were the thing to have before camera phones were as big as they are.

We didn’t have the luxury of getting out iPhones out and posting all the pictures on Instagram. Instead, we took pictures on a digital camera and had to upload the pictures to our big computers to find out what the results were like.

7. Worn down Uggs.

You have to admit, a lot of us couldn’t afford the real deal when it came to buying Uggs. So we settled for another cheap substitute.

They always ended up leaning over like the picture above so we would try and beg our parents to buy some more. Fake Uggs were another footwear decision that we really wish we didn’t have to go through.

8. Footless tights with a denim skirt.

Oh My Lord. Whoever started of this fashion trend needs to have a rethink but we all know someone that used to get around looking like this…

There are no excuses really. When a trend starts, we all had to jump on it. Thankfully we left footless tights in 2007.

9. Being seriously jealous of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s life.

Why didn’t I live in California? And why didn’t I look like them?

Mary-Kate and Ashley were EVERYWHERE in the 00s, releasing their own set of films and featuring in too many television series. It seems like these two twins were lost in the 00s as well because you don’t really hear from them that much anymore.

10. Measuring your feet in Clarkes.

This was the only fun part of going school shoe shopping with your mum. You knew you were going to leaving Clarkes with a HIDEOUS pair of “sensible” school shoes 🙁

The painful memories of buying sensible but extremely uncomfortable school shoes are memories that we would like to erase.

11. Hating on Justine Littlewood.

If you asked anyone that grew up in the 00s who the biggest villain of the time was, we’re 95% sure they would say Justine Littlewood.

There was just something about her that rubbed us all the wrong way. Nasty little b*tch. There has been recent news that they’re bringing a new series of Tracey Beaker out where she is a single mum and us 90s and 00s kids couldn’t be more excited. We wonder if Justine will be back in action!

12. Being so excited watching the X Factor / Pop Idol finals.

The Pop Idol final that featured Gareth Gates and Will Young was one of the most anticipating moments of the 00s we all sat through.

We don’t think the nation has ever been so perfectly divided on who should have won. Will Young took the title in the end but it was very entertaining.

13. Ripping pages out of your magazines and sticking them to your walls.

I was never allowed an Eminem poster on my wall because my mum hated him. Any other singer or actor was allowed so I made sure my wall was filled with them.

It got to the point when my wall was so full and it looked so good that I never ever wanted to take them down. It wasn’t until I reached the age of about 18 and decided enough was enough and ripped them all off.

14. Trying to learn the “Reach” S Club 7 dance.

But never being able to get it right. I had a group of friends that would all take the role of each member of S Club 7 and there would be that one person that would mess up the routine.

If you can’t think of the person in your group of friends that messed it up then it was probably you.

15. Collecting as many lipglosses from your Mizz magazines as humanly possible.

Even thought they felt like you were wiping cement on your lips and they tasted horrendous.

We used to collect all sorts of weird and wonderful things from magazines back in the 00s.

16. School pudding.

It was everything and one of the reasons we would plead with our parents to let us have school dinners.

The choice between having packed lunches and school dinners was one of the biggest decisions of our time in school. Most of the time we ended up having school dinners because of the puddings and turkey twizzlers. BRING THEM BACK!

17. The CPG revision books that thought they were hilarious, but really they just confused you even more.

We don’t need to explain much more than this…
