We all loved LOADS of the films from the 80s. It was easy to forget about some of the British films with there being so many Blockbuster hits from America.

So, here are 10 British classics that we didn’t appreciate enough at the time!

This will definitely bring back some great memories.

1. Rita, Sue and Bob Too!

This was a British comedy film that was brought to us back in 1987. This was a risky film about two school girls who have a fling with a married man.

We loved this film so much.. we can remember where it was set and everything – in Bradford. What a classic!

2. Chariots Of Fire

We all remember watching this when we were younger. This was possibly one of the most famous British films from the 80s.

This historical drama tells the tale of two athletes back in the 1921 Olympics. This film will forever be a classic that remains ridiculously popular.

3. Gregory’s Girl

This film came out back in 1981. This was a classic coming of age film that we all loved watching in the day.

This managed to reach number 30 on the BFI’s list of the top 100 British films. We all remember watching this when we were younger.

4. The Long Good Friday

This was a British Gangster film that came out in 1980. This presented Bob Hoskins with his break-through role.

It only had a small budget but is now rated in the top 100 British films in the 20th Century.

5. Elephant Man

We absolutely LOVED this film when we were younger. It was filmed in black and white but this didn’t put us off at all!

They received an array of different awards for this film, from Best Picture all the way to Best Actor!

6. Withnail and I

This was a British Black Comedy film. The film was based around two unemployed actors and their adventures together.

They lived in Camden and appeared to splash at lot of their spends on alcohol. Did you used to LOVE this film when you were younger? What a trip down memory lane!

7. Local Hero

This was a classic comedy film that we all watched when we were younger. Bill Forsyth directed this amazing film.

Did you know that he won a BAFTA for his directing with this film? We loved watching this when we were younger.

8. Shirley Valentine

This was one of the greatest films for us women back in the day. Shirley really did speak to us on a personal level.

This rom-com was insanely popular back in the day. Some of us have still watched it in recent years because of how fantastic it is!

9. A Fish Called Wanda

This was a British-American comedy that was brought to us back in 1988. This is all about a gang of diamond thieves.

The incredible John Cleese helped co-write this amazing film. We LOVED the first time we saw this classic.

10. Educating Rita

This is a British comedy and drama film that was brought to us back in 1983. It was actually adapted from a stage play from 1980!

Michael Caine and Julie Walters were just some of the incredible actors that starred in this absolute classic.
