English is a rich and varied language, but nowhere is it more interesting than in the area of slang. The whole of the UK can’t even agree to have a single slang dictionary – instead, slang develops from region to region, which means most of the time a person from the South won’t have a clue what a Northerner is going on about. And vice versa.

Some slang is fun to say: Cockney rhyming slang, for instance, is always great when you want to compare your stairs to fruit. Because why not? But when slang isn’t being rhythmic and easy to work out based on rhyme-pairings, sometimes it can be downright ridiculous. Especially with the development of social media and trends, the slang dictionary has increased ten times in size.
