Suddenly, the music world was alight with the news that Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard from Seattle indie band Death Cab for Cutie were an item.
In September 2009, the two tied the knot. Actually, according to sources, they took the romantic decision to elope.

Sadly, the marriage between the indie musician and Hollywood it-girl didn’t last very long. In December 2011, the couple filed for divorce in Los Angeles.

But with the marriage lasting less than two years, there must be a story behind it, right? In 2015, Death Cab for Cutie released their first album since Ben’s split with Zooey, Kintsugi, and many fans say that the album’s lyrics must be about their relationship.
When the album was released, Ben said: “I’m not going to change the way I’ve always written for fear of people correctly or incorrectly assigning a name and face to these songs.
I’ve always written about my life and the lives of people around me, and how everything intersects.”
However, some of the lyrics are noticeably pointed. On ‘Black Sun,’ for example, Ben sings writes: ‘How could something so fair/Be so cruel/When this black sun revolved/Around you.’
Similarly, on ‘No Room in Frame’, he says: ‘Was I in your way/When the cameras turned to face you?/No room in frame/For two.’

While everyone was wondering if the lyrics to Kintsugi held secrets about Ben Gibbard’s relationship with Zooey Deschanel, Ben was busy forming a new relationship.
Ben married photographer and tour manager Rachel Demy in Seattle on October 21st 2016.
However, there is some controversy swirling about Ben Gibbard’s new girlfriend – now wife.

In August 2014, long-time Death Cab for Cutie member Chris Walla announced that he was leaving the band. This came as a shock to many fans, and the only explanation that Chris gave was: “Deciding to leave the band was not, and is not, easy. It’s really really sad. I love my bandmates and I’m proud of what we’ve done.
Moving forward, my plans are to continue making music, producing records, and erring on the side of benevolence and beauty wherever possible.”
However, a source close to the band has complicated Chris’ departure. They claimed that Rachel Demy once had a relationship with Chris Walla and that Rachel’s subsequent relationship with Rachel caused a rift in the group.

Zooey Deschanel’s New Love
Zooey, too, has managed to find love again after dating Ben Gibbard. She is now dating Jonathan Scott, one half of the ubiquitous Property Brothers with his twin brother Drew Scott.
The TV personality and real estate expert and the Hollywood actress first met on an episode of Carpool Karaoke in 2019. In the special episode, siblings Zooey and Emily Deschanel appeared alongside Jonathan and Drew Scott.
Apparently, there was an immediate attraction between the two. Jonathan said: “I thought I was playing it cool, but the producer said I was flirting so hard that they had to cut a bunch of it out.”
