The BBC have confirmed a hat-trick of instalments of The Vicar Of Dibley in Lockdown will air over the festive period, with Dawn back as vicar Geraldine Grainger, and she “couldn’t be happier” about taking on the part again.

    Dawn said:

‘Back in the dog collar, back in Dibley and back on your telly at Christmas. I couldn’t be happier. Bless you’.

Richard Curtis – who co-wrote the series, which originally ran from 1994 to 1998, as well as seasonal specials in 2000, 2005 and 2007 – added:

‘Like every village in the country, there’s been a lot happening in Dibley this year – and Dawn has got a lot to say about it’.

The three, 10-minute episodes will see Geraldine delivering her monthly sermons to her parishioners via Zoom during lockdown, post lockdown and pre-another-lockdown.

James Fleet will also reprise his role as Hugo Horton, who, along with some of the local primary school children, will help the vicar.

She will discuss important topics, such as how it’s never a good idea to let Owen Newitt – who was played by the late Roger Lloyd-Pack – cut your hair, or make home-made wine.

And the dearly departed Alice Tinker – who was portrayed by the late Emma Chambers – is also still an important presence in the village, with some residents still looking for lost buttons and the arrival of decimalisation.

Shane Allen, Controller of Comedy Commissioning for the BBC, said:

‘This triple festive treat from the nation’s favourite fun-loving vicar is the warm comedy hug we’ve all missed’.

The three, 10-minute episodes will air weekly, and they will also be broadcast in one 30-minute compilation episode over Christmas.

Series one of The Vicar Of Dibley is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now.
